Default Alberta Hunter Education

My son is 11 and would like to complete his hunter education so he can get his hunting license.

I talked to Aheia and they currently only have online training.

I think he would learn more in a classroom setting.

Does anyone have a lead on an instructor doing a classroom course in Calgary.

"I think he would learn more in a classroom setting".

absolutely he would.

Wish you luck, for now but I'm thinking,
you might get more action to your request, closer to Hunting season

I may be wrong though

I felt the same way when my kids took it in spring 2020, since they were home and had nothing to do. Perhaps one day we will all go and do an in classroom refresher.

AHEIA will be opening up soon.

That being said, I am an instructor. It is hard for me to compete with the classroom setting of AHEIA. No way can I have the same mounts that AHEIA has.

Also, it is a long course, approaching 20 hours. I don't expect a lot, but there is a cost for me to teach a student (manual and test), then add in 18-20 hours of my time. Not worth it unless I rent a hall and have several students at a time. Of course the hall rental costs me $. I still don't have the mounts AHEIA does.

Another consideration for a 11 year old, does he know how to write a multiple choice, true or false test? The course was set up for 12 and over. With the reduction in age for bird hunting to 10, the only person I've had to fail was a 10 year old. He didn't take it well. His mother said he had written an exam like that. I can't remember when I first had multiple choice exams, the 70's are a long time ago.

When my daughters turned 12, they did the online course (their choice). They did OK.
