Default The leepr 303 makes its bones

Well, managed to get out this morning to do a little still hunting and scouting.
Found some promising ground, and came back this afternoon rattle the heck outta the place.
towards evening I wanted to get down to the bottom of the meadows and ambushed 4 does coming along the trail I had been working, and the nicked back int the bush.
I just happened to know there was a quad tril connecting the adjacent meadow, so humped my sorry butt as fast as i could over to the next field, whereupon the buck that had been trailing the does burst out of cover across the meadow and i flattend him with a 180 grain Speer out of a .303 Norma case.
I had previously taken off my scope when I got into the bush and I'm glad I did, the express sights that Leeper installed for me worked perfectly.
I ranged the buck afterwards at 63 yards.

This was exactly the kind of deer I like - not too big to hump down the hill, and he was at the top of the hill ( I tend to shoot them on top of hills for some reason!) I was 1/2 mile from the truck so I'm glad it was an easy drag!
Thanks for building me a fantastic stalking rifle Bill!

Nice buck Cat, I wish mine was on on top of a hill, and not down the other side.

Thanks guys, as a rule I try not to take running shots unless I have to and things are right , and i am not opposed to them under good circumstances.
In this instance things were right - not in the bush, deer wasn't bouncing , etc etc, .....

Nice buck sir!

Great ambush story as well, just goes to show that scouting and knowing your area has definite, tasty benefits!

That is a one off custom .
It startd out as a ruger #3 and a Kepplinger single set trigger as installed.
Bill finsied and fitted the added wood by George peterson of treebone carving, added the Old English Decellerator pad and cut the barrel blank half round/half octagon as well as chambering it in .303 British, then added the integral front sling swivel, Brno front sight, NECG rear express sights, and reconfigured the lever for me.

However, Ruger offers a Light sporter in .303 British that can be had from Clay at prohpet river.
My rifle build started the whole Ruger thing, originally they were going to do a limited run, but thentey decided to bring it on as a pruduction model.
