Default .338 lapua hunting

I am wondering how many of you out there are using the big lapua as thier primary big game round and how you have found the performance? I bought my remington 700 police this summer and practiced with it extensivley prior to using it to bag a good size moose mid october. One shot broadside and he was dead before he hit the ground! I am a believer for sure. Yes it is overkill in most cases, but it does give me the option to reach out a bit farther when needed. I used the Nolser 250 grain accubond im my handloads, complete pass through at 250 yards, exit hole was just perfect, around 2 1/2" diameter.

look forward to hearing back from you

he is no monster, but I am proud show him off! wish I had better pics but had lost my camera that day. he is a true trophy to me and I will always remember the experiance and exitement of walking into the bush alone, calling him in, and packing him out on foot. PS...he is very tasty!

Spent the better part of this year debating the 338 vs 300 Rem ultra mag deciding in mid november to go with the ultra mag. Virtually the same size cartridge and identical powder loads in each but way more bullet choices in 30 cal. With the same reach. I also figured I walk a lot of miles and 338 and lightweight just didn't seem to be a combo u could get. I am curious how u find yours to carry.

Nice moose! 338 is good for moose buffalo but it is a little much for anything smaller. Hunted with my buddy that has one and wasted alot of meat from using to much fire power. Thats my opinion anyways.
