.30-06 for coyotes?

As much as I would love to purchase a new rifle and scope, it doesn't look like it's in the budget for me for a while. I would love to do some coyote hunting this season, and I was wondering if anyone had experience hunting them with a .30-06 in a really, really, really low grain cartridge. I would like to keep the pelts. I hope I'm not opening this up for some ribbing......

I have had experience hinting them with full power moose loads.

Kills em dead. Not good for the pelts though.....

Shot one on Sunday afternoon with my 30-06, shooting winchester fail safes, in a 180gr, hit him in the head on a trot at about 60yrds. The pelt looked good but the face didn't! He had some serious damage on his right hip, so he NEEDED to be put to rest! Got a pic, just don't know how to post it! Lol

30.06 is big game caliber.

But it will kill them DRT and I've probably seen as many shot up from bad placed shots from smaller calibers.

I'd stay of the shoulder. Put it through the bibs behind the shoulder and buy some dental floss.

Thing is, how many are you gonna shoot. If you are a newbie, you likely won't shoot ten this winter.

Your 3006 will kill them. If you want the pelt I would suggest a 22250. If you just want to kill them any gun will do. I use a 300 just cause it is closer. My 22250 is a cheaper cleaner way to go. Practice with your 3006, when you have the money buy a smaller gun and keep the pelts then??

The first one was with 100gr hp. I couldn't see the first hole but you could put a grapefruit between his shoulders. The second one was a fmj at 250M I couldn't see the holes at first, he was hit in the ear. didn't mark the pelt at all.

The accelerators kill them just fine and are fun to shoot. I don't think you can buy them retail anymore but you can make them very easy.

I don't know anything about pelts, you can ask the other fellows.

Maybe try the factory loaded Remington accelerators. If you cant afford there is nothing wrong with the accelerators once you get used to shooting them .A buddy of mine uses them for yotes and loves them .

I would use surplus ammo,with the full metal jacket it will not do as much damage and will likely only put a small entry and exit holes.

Stick with the biggest heaviest bullet you can find for it that way it does not open up bad and cause alot of damage, shot a few with a 338 that did less damage than my 22-250 because the bullet would not open up
