Default Non typicals vs Typicals

Hey fellas. Just wondering which of the two get you guys going more? For some reason i had dreamed of taking a big non typical for years, and did so last season. Is taking a monster typical viewed as a more prestigeous trophy than a non typical in your eyes? Or vice versa?

The reason i ask is the other night over beers a friend of my old lady passed around his iphone showing pictures of a, what i would say, is a dinky little 3x3 typical whitetail he got last week out by caroline. I showed him pics of my non typical that scored 178 and the goof made a snide remark....."yeah but its a non-typical".....which confused me.

What are your thoughts boys? Am i out to lunch? Are my standards lower than other hunters?

Well Naturally it's harder to take a typical 180 than a non typical 180.

I'd take either happily but a big dark horned Alberta non typical is in my dreams!

In my eyes any mature Buck is a trophy, and would be happy with either a typical or non typical.

As for your friend it sounds like he shot an immature deer and the appropriate comment from him should have been but mine probably tastes better.

You should post some pics of your Non-Typical. I want to have one of each on the wall some day. I'd settle for a 165" Typical and would rank that similar to a 180" Non, by my standards. I've never shot anything close to that good, but I dream to. haha

I view both typical and non typical as great trophies. I must admit though, I do appreciate the extra character of a non typical head.

Default Eye of the beholder.

As you can see from the previous comments everyone differs on their opinion. I would take a 140 non typical over a 170 typical anyday of the week. I think typical deer are a dime a dozen. Throw a kicker on the rack and I will shoot a deer with 20 less inches everytime.

amen. i like my deer clean and symmetrical as well. but a big non-typical does give you bragging rights becasue you stalked him and were the only one in that deers lifetime to put a bullet though such an elusive buck. all in all, harvesting an animal in the first place is pretty rewarding no matter the size becasue some people dont have the opportunity to do so.
