Default bass pro dead fish

The aquarium was looking mighty grim the other day. Few dead fish on bottom. Saw one big salmon or lake trout cruising around full of disease. Or warts. Couldnt see out of one eye. I assume some of this is natural for the salmon spawn. Not my fish species so cant say but that one fish wss gross.

I always wondered about the health of those fish in that tank.

They grew up in an aquarium or hatchery did they not?

That would explain it...

I am pretty sure there is no salmon in there.

What you seen would have probably been the rainbow trout.

There is rainbows, browns, brookies, whitefish, walleye, pike, and sturgeon in the tank.

There also use to be a burbot but I haven't seen it on the last few trips.

Last time I was there I noticed the pike was really faded to a pale colour compared to a few months ago. It used to be one of the healthier looking fish in there but now its fins are kind of ratty too. I agree with Nate on the rainbows.

That tank should be for "lure testing".... then we can see just how well the 15 dollar rapala compares to the 5 dollar cotton cordel.....

It is common for captive fish, fed on pellets as these most certainly are, to be unnaturally pale. Pellets do not contain all the minerals found in the wild needed for full coloration. Check out fish at a hatchery, you will find the same thing. It's not evidence of disease or neglect. Also, the fish tend to sometimes go a little wild (just like the rest of us) and swim hard with nowhere to go but a sheet of plate glass, incurring accidents and injuries sometimes.

I'd say it's more them adapting to their environment. Fish will go through minor colour changes to mimic their surroundings.

We watched them feed those fish. Worms, meal worms and minnows is what he tossed in. I always thought the pike and walleye looked intimadated by those big rainbows. I dont think they felt like the top predator anymore.

LOL...no doubt. Even throw a fish in a livewell for a couple hours and the colour change is dramatic.
