Default Favorite Rope Knots in the Field

There was a good response to the favorite fishing knots.

Now for your favorite field knots.

I am a fan of the bowline and the reef knot(s).

Bowline and clove hitch are the two most common for me. Reef is probably up there as well.

I think all my go Too's have been listed. Not much I can't do with these. Bowline, truckers hitch, clove hitch, and prusik.

When I need to cinch a load down, or tighten tent line I tie a figure eight on a bite at the end of the rope for my loop instead of bowline or “overhand knot loop.” Stronger and much easier to untie. Or I’ll use an alpine butterfly depending on how the rope gets loaded. Tying a “slip” clove hitch instead of regular clove hitch means you don’t need to use the end of the rope and you can undo the hitch quickly and easily, even under load.

Besides the above mentioned, I would add a sheet bend to the list.

The main benefit of the bowlines is because it comes apart so easy and if you add a Yosemite it's bomb proof. I dont use figure 8 much, I've had to cut off a few figure 8's that had been loaded I do like the butterfly and I use that lots, it has so many uses.

Bowline, slippery hitch (I use it a lot), constrictor knot (stays put, not easy to untie),
Reef knot, larkshead, Canadian jam knot, prussic , figure 8
