Default What do kids even learn in school these days?

My 7 year old just brought me her empty juice box and I blew it up and stepped into so it exploded. She said that was the first time she had ever seen that..... . Thought this was the stuff you learn in kindergarten, that's where I was shown it. Kids these days

Gender****
You can't even send your kids to a public school nowadays and very few private schools
I won't even start about the masks

Schools focus more on social justice and other make believe instead of math and science.

Wow......this went dark real quick. It was more about innocence of childhood and learning, not how the establishment is failing us

Pranks and mischief are the job done the grandfathers and fathers. We shouldn’t be laying these important life lessons at the feet of the humourless professional educators.

I bet kids don’t know what an empty bic pen and a balled up wet piece of paper is used for either.

Wink

Showed my kids how to take a pen apart and launch spitballs out of it etc...I had many detentions too...

Kept the teachers on their toes but I remember one teacher that returned spit ball fire at me once then had to clean up the classroom after everyone went outside for lunch

Anyone remember/know how to make a gun out of a clothespin that will shoot and light a wooden match?

How bout;
Using a flint and steel to make a fire?
Using a 9 v battery to light steel wool on fire?
Vinegar and baking soda bottle rockets?
Mentos in soda pop volcanos?
1/4” flat washer, 2 rubber bands and an old envelope, marked rattlesnake eggs?
Home made cat whisker AM radio?
Radio Shack, push button, Led, AA battery, match box, Morse code transmitter?

These are all things we can show our children along with everything outdoors, like shooting, reloading, game processing, field craft etc.

If we leave it to our institutionalize educators to raise and mould our children, we will be in a far worse place than we are today. Become active in your child’s life, plain and simple.

Heh

I tell all my parents.. You are responsible for 90% of your kids education. I tweak 10%.

Then I tell them to act accordingly.

If your kids are coming back from school ‘hating’ you.

Then do your job.

Ps… I also teach

How to spitball effectively

Stealth in class napping

How to hide your phone in your text

Stealth Chip eating 101

All the essentials

I’ve also taught critter ID/tracking.. fire starting…. And bush orienteering.

But let’s jus burn all teachers.

I wonder what you critics are doing today? I’m still working. And it’s part of the job I’d wish on no man.

But yea… we’re all asshats

Exactly, do your part as a parent goes a long way in how your children become adults and have success in life.

We were so involved in our kids education, sports and outdoor activities but I got to say once they brought home what they called pure math I was out of my element big time.

Yea, thanks. seriously.

Seeing my kids in school now the impact of a good teacher is incredible and I know we're very thankful from our household perspective.

I came to this Country not knowing anything and was sent to school on day 3, the teachers in the small town elementary helped raise me just as much as the town, church and my parents. I'd say my parents brought me here for a better life and the teachers in the daily made that life better.

It’s a digital age. Many younger people wouldn’t know a traditional clock from a wall phone with a dial on it. . Yep you’re old

I have a few friends that are teachers. I have to admit that before I met them, I had no idea how much extra time and money (of their own) that is spent on top of normal working hours/budget. And I’m assuming, from some of the comments here that it’s also a relatively thankless job. I’m glad there are good teachers out there, because it’s surely not the job for everyone! I also learned that they are somewhat handcuffed to the curriculum set for them. If telling time and counting change is not part of the curriculum, (I don’t think it is) it’s up to the parents to teach these to their kids. I don’t think teachers nowadays have enough extra time in a day to add in many extras. Not to mention adding in athletics after school and on weekends. I live in a small town and I have to say our school staff is outstanding! Long story short, if you are a teacher, THANK YOU!

But I don’t think this was not the OP’s point on this thread. So back to stomping on juice boxes. Boom! 😁

X2 Bessie . 90 percent needs to be done at home , to many people think teachers should be a part time parent .

It is what it is.

Cheers

I'd say all teachers are far from asshats. However it's clear the administration and a bulk of the new ones have been hijacked or associate with the Radical left and muffle or deter the good teachers from having a voice. I feel for the good teachers for having to teach certain aspects of the curriculum.

I think this was meant to be a light hearted thread and never intended to bash teachers. And certainly not a political thread so let’s keep the far left and the far right and all the in betweens out of the conversation.

That this even is an issue and how administration handles it is a signal of how degraded society is today on so many levels…..

Distressing but not even close to what this thread is about.
