Default Anyone catching trout in the bow?

been down the last few days and all i'm hooking is whitefish, don't get me wrong, a fish on is a fish on. The whiteys are insane, fighting like i've never seen, leaping out of the water and doing circles around me when i'm trying to net the buggers. Some of them are sheer purple, nice colors.

But no trout at all, weird. Maybe they don't like being around so many whiteys.

i was out sunday morning a few trout and a couple of whitefish, the week before that landed over 20 trout for the day, was using a wire worm with a sz 14 flash back haresear , plus i was using 2 split shots on and a 12 ft leader. this time of year i try to get my flies bouncing off the bottom.

Yeah, extended mine today to about 11 feet to get to the bottom with a couple of split shots. The whites were liking the prince nymph and brassie. didn't touch the red worms at all.

For the first time ever I had a white strip line off my reel.

i think its because the water cold, i had a few put up a good fight, but they never fight like that in the summer unless of course you get one in the tail.

x2 i also never had any hits on the red worms. But lots of strikes on the prince nymph and cronimid. I got a 18inch brown on the double bunny downstream beside some boulders. my leader was running at 9 1/2 - 10feet and the indacator was set at around 8feet and was getting into fish. the whites were stagerd at the end of the runs but i think the bow may be staging into spawing by tribs which would explan the absence of them right now.

Probably won't be dropping eggs till mid-May.

12ft nymphing leaders in the Bow? Did they dredge the river out lately? Not too many holes that deep around here.

LOL. 9 foot just wasn't cutting it today, don't know if it's current or what.

The whites tend to school in the deeper holes, right now the trout i have been getting have come from some faster water with some chop. Id try some rubber legged stonefly patterns or toss some streamers, dont catch whites on those patterns very often.

Cheers,

My son Skunkboy was out today, just pitching a black twistertail, scored himself a couple of browns, 15" and 23".

He is still a little intimidated by the fly rod, i'll get him there.

You could get a new license last week that was good for the new fishing year.
Fish are getting more active as the water warms up
