Default Is a Rusty Wood Stove OK for an Ice Hut?

Looks like I can find one locally but it's a bit rusty. Don't have much experience with the permanent shack world...

Any issues to be aware of?

Cheers.

depends on if its one of those tin stoves or a heavy steel stove. The type of rust, surface or actually eating into the metal.

Thanks for the heads up I'll be sure to check it out for those issues.

Also what does everyone put behind these units to save the walls getting' singed? looking to keep it light weight.

Cheers.

Do a burn in it with it outside of your tent. Get it good and hot for a half hour/hour or so, then put it in your shack. You should be fine after that...

Oh, guess I should've added, let it cool down first, then put it in your shack. Consider that my legal disclaimer...

I wouldnt worry too much about getting the walls hot. Leave some free space around it and you will be fine. I have a permanent shack and trust me if your stove is hot enough to make the walls hot you wouldnt be able to breath in there.

I never got my shack out this year, too busy with work. The season is ending and I already can't wait for next year.
