They seem to like the smelly stuff - smelts, minnows, anchovies, etc. where legal.

I was informed to use noisy baits too. anything that rattles Going to try this week. Friend swears by it and his largest was 18 pounds last year, he does not use any bait at all.

I've never caught one on anything except shiners/minnows/smelts.

Caught Burbs before on large Jigging Raps at Buffalo Lake. When they're aggressive, they hit almost anything that moves. Spoons, Westaskewins, etc, has been my choice especially when they're in the Pre-spawn to Spawning mode

Default big spoons

was told by a friend of mine who has a fishing adventure show (name will not b mentioned here). use big spoons and slam them on the bottom, you can tip them with a bunch off worms but not needed. they are attracted by the vibrations they pick up

wife sat beside me last weekend in the tent, pulled out 3 times the burbs I did, finally figured out it was because she was using a whole smelt and I was just using small pieces on my glo jig. I caught walleyes and she caught burbs, guess the bait size did make a difference.
