Best upland hunting vest?

I really like hunting for Grouse, so this year I am making a effort to get out with just the 20 gauge and go for a walk more often. Would like to eventually go for Pheasant one day.

I currently only have a back pack, which I use as a day pack when Big Game hunting... it doesn't work well for Upland hunting, straps get in the way (unless they are not bulky and don't restrict a quick shouldering).

I have only seen a few at Cabela's and they look cheap.

Any recommdations for a better quality or your favourite Upland hunting vest?

I know badlands makes an upland vest that looks pretty sweet. I actually bought a Badlands camo lumbar pack because it had enough space for all my big game gear, while still having shoulder straps that are thin enough that its easy to quickly and comfortably shoulder my shotgun while bird hunting. I made a little bird tote to hang off the back of it too.

Badlands has a wicked warranty too. Lifetime, unconditional.

Id say they're worth checking out!

I have been using an ALPS Outdoors upland vest for two seasons and am very happy with it.

The Cabella's vest I have had the past 15 years they don't make anyone - haven't seen one the equivalent. Too bad really. It is nice to have one that takes a hydration bladder.

Thanks for all the input, but after doing some research on all of the above recommended Upland vests. I am leaning towards more of a vest/strap style not a back pack style. Out of all the Back Pack style the Alps seems to be less bulky, may consider that one.

Leaning towards Browning Bird n Lite, Filson Mesh Game bag and Cabela's Upland Pro Strap ($99 with free delivery and I have a GC...woo whoo!)

Anyone know where you can buy the Browning and Filson in Canada? I can only seem to find US pricing.

Browning Bird n lite. Many different variations on types, vests, jackets, ect. Bottom line, straps like a backpack that put the weight comfortably where it should be, or where you want it.

Bass Pro has some somtimes. Cabelas occasionally. Your Best bet is to order online. You get what you want, and usually the better price.

Amazon, Lion Country Supply, Gun Dog Supply, Ebay, ect, ect. Most US retailers ship to Canada.

Another vote for the browning strap vest. I picked mine up from Canadian tire. Didn't cost much. I used to have one that was more like a full vest, but I found it got really hot in the early part of the season. With a strap vest you can wear it over a t-shirt or a down parka. It carries my birds, shells, and the pockets still have enough room for odds and ends like a SPOT, etc. Canvas so will last forever. Shell holders for12 shells in each pocket (24 total), and they can flip out of the pockets when you are hunting for easy shell access.

I like the L.L.Bean Ultra-tec upland pac for early season. Light, doesn't get me sweated up too bad, and just enough ammo pocket for a five mile sharpie trek!!
The cross-over shoulder strap is out of the way of the stock-pad on your gun so it doesn't affect your shooting.

I use one of them in summer, but later on in the season they don't have the provision to carry the layer of clothes that I take off as it warms up.

Filson strap vest ... used them forever, even use it as a clays vest to hold shells and emptys ... you can debone a small deer or antelope and pack it out if you have to ... throw your lunch and a waterbottle in the back and go for a looonnngg walk

Thanks for all the suggestions.

Was in Slave Lake last week hunting. Made a day trip to Edmonton to get some things.

Saw a few options in person.

1) Browning Pheasant Forever vest, heavy and expensive $175 and didn't have my size. Might have bought it.
2) Alps pack style at WSS $135. Didn't like where the shell pockets were located, too far back harder to reach.
3) PnD didn't have any.
4) Cabela's had the Upland Pro Strap vest. It's what I ended up buying. decent price $99 bucks and has early and late season flexibility.

FYI they fit big I bought the M/L size and its perfect. I'm 5'11 220pds.

Another vote for Filson, however some of the others look good as well. Southland Canadian Tire in Calgary carries Filson.

Got to use my upland vest, Cabelas,today for the first time.

Fits pretty well, very light. Pockets are big enough to hold a bottle of water and some snacks.

Carried 4 Grouse in the back for a while. Felt decent with a small load in it. Easy to clean too!

I bought an under amor upland vest about 5 years ago when I was in Montana best vest I've ever owned comfortable and the game pouch in the back is lined nicely
