Default Calling Lake Ice

About 16 inches of ice on the east end. when ice was forming it was broken up, and you will hit patches were 1 inch ice is jumbled up, making it hard to drive or skidoo on. Ice has little snow cover.

There must have been an accident with a power auger, or something, around a few holes by the tower, lots of blood. Hope the victim is OK, or at least cooking slowly in a nice batter, if you know what I mean.

Thanks for the report, Drewski. You wouldn't have happened to have lines in by the tower would you? Where did you get on? Right in town?

Is the PP actually closed off or just blockaded by the heave?

Default No heaves at the townsite!!

At the Microwave tower north of the Provincial Park, turn left and travel past the ball diamonds. Go past North Alberta Job Corps, and you will see the start of the cabin section in town. First road down to the lake is where you can drive on. Also north past Moosehorn Market first left down to the lake, or go through the Res and go to Sucker Creek playground, and drive on there. I did not check out Poplar Street access, but it, may be subject to the heave at the PP. Yes, the Tower is an OK place to try. Interesting thing in the AM saw 4 whites in the shallows.

hey Wulf.
the road is open but the ice heave is the entire length of the side and HUGE!!!!! around 6-7' tall!!!
i thought about climbing over it and walking out but the ice in front of it is air pocked and thin and breaks under your feet!!!!!
you'll want to try another option....
cheers, gw

Nothing's changed there - access to anything other than the east shore line is pretty limited. Watch those ice blades - it's kind of interesting to see despite there tire chewing potential - almost like shale ledges in the mountains.

Oh most of them are quite visible - some come up 6-8 inches and look sharp. You can get through them near the shore as they're sparse but you'll find a nasty belt of them a few hundred yards onto the lake that are seemingly impassable on anything other than foot. You might try heading further south as there may be a way to get across them somewhere there but to my knowledge, it didn't look like anyone has tried.
