Peep Size
Do you find a smaller peep to be more accurate for hunting. I mostly hunt the coulees down south. What size do you use??
Thanks

Get an Anchor sight you don't have to worry about peep size.

3/16 is a good size for both hunting and target.

The instructions that came with my Trophy Ridge V5 said to use a 1/4" peep. I find the 1/4" peep "halo's" the outer sight housing perfectly. Works for me.

i use whatever size peep will completely cover my sight ring, then i know my anchor points are good. Just another thing to keep me honest.

same here. For hunting and low light conditions I'd lean towards a larger peep.

I have a 3/16" on both my bows and they are great. I have tried 1/4", to big and 1/8" to small. The 3/16" is good for 3-D or hunting or just a good all around peep. Cheers Roscoe

I use a 3/16 because it fits it covers the entire outside of my sight housing so i see all my pins perfectly.

As has been said use a peep that covers the ring around your sight. I use a 1/4 in but I have an Axcel Armourtech Vision that has a big housing.

..I personally suggest 1/4 peep for hunting...for most it allows full sight ring view, is as accurate in most cases on hunter tackle...and eliminates the low light issue at first legal light and last legal light when animals are most active...

Got a bigger sight housing on the new setup so I went from a 3/16 to 1/4... Works for me

I have shot the 1/4 for 4 years now... But I read an article by Randy Ulmer and he stated that he only shoots as big of a peep that he needs to for his current hunting situation. He also stated that with a smaller peep that you increase ( I think it was a photographer phrase"depth of view") I might be wrong but essentially it said that it would allow you to see both your pins and target in clearer focus.

Of course one has to factor age into the scenero also..younger shooters can get away with the 3/13 where the ..."seasoned" shooter may need the 1/4

Peep size
The peep size would also depend on the axel to axel (ATA) length of the bow. Long ATA bows have a much less acute string angle when drawn so the location of the peep tends to be closer to the shooters eye, so smaller peeps still provide enough "field of view". The distance from the peep to the shooters eye on short ATA bows is farther than long ATA bows so a larger peep diameter is usually helpful to maintain a reasonable field of view around your sight pins.
When the peep moves from 2" away from the eye to say 3" (just guessing on the numbers) when changing/upgrading bows there is a significant change in your field of view when looking through the same peep.

If your sight allows you to adjust the sight radius in and out you can also fine tune a peep to the sight housing.

I don't use a peep or a loop and can be deadly..shot two triple Hoods in the last several years with the set up...and way too many hoods...luckily i have access to lots of arrows... no peep can be as accurate as a peep with proper anchors..I have three ..a kisser...release hand on jaw and string close to face..

I shoot a 1/4 inch with a 6" dovetail sight. Need it for middle aged eyes. Threw the kisser away though and forced myself to anchor consistently on my jaw. The peep sight more or less self aligns the sight to your eye.
....now if I could just cure a 25 year case of sporadic "gold" fever.

In the winter i prefer to have my face covered up so the kisser doesn't work for me. I find with a peep i find that lighting conditions really change the outcome for me.

I shoot just a kisser with no peep, the peep was a hassle for me with my glasses. Once I got my anchor figured and kisser locked down my accuracy is great. Bought an Anchor Sight last year and ditched the kisser too, accuracy remains the same thus far.

given this thread and another on twist, it amazes me that the anchor sight isn't more common. it eliminates all these headaches....and allows full light to your eye at dawn and dusk. peeps suck ace.

Good point ishootbambi ..the anchor does indeed help many that use a peep but have issues..
