A quick show for non farmers...
Of the modern advances used...GPS, auto steer, mapping. GPS is available in most machines, combines, tractors, swathers, sprayers, etc. And makes the job MUCH easier and accurate.
This is the screen in the cab showing the operator all pertinent info....
And the results....
And the accuracy is amazing!!

I have been doing farm Ins claims for 20 yrs. Seen the start of GPS in a few pieces of equipment to now you almost can't afford not to have it in most pieces. Quite an advancement in a short time.
Then there is the Software used in everything new, where Big Brother can see what your doing at all times and shut you down from far away for not making your payments

That's awesome. Love those pics. I'd give anything to have been born to a farmer. Dad was the youngest of the boys, and my oldest uncle was the one who took over the farm.

Have to love perfect swaths. Technology can be quite helpful for sure.

I used to be fascinated by this, especially during the time when I was in the telematics industry... I suppose I still am!

I love running equipment, but have never had the opportunity to run any farm equipment. It looks like it would be so satisfying!

Easier now than ever to drink/drive/swath/combine. No wonder farmers love the harvest time.

Yup, from armoured vehicles, air planes, heavy equipment , quads, bikes, boats etc just something draws me to them to give them a whirl.
Farming wise only got to drive a grain truck but man those combines look like a blast!
Awesome.

I read an article that stated that the Russians were having a hard time getting stolen Ukrainian combines to work once they shipped them to Russia. They were all shutdown and locked via wireless software. I hope that they can't find a hack to get them going again.

I'll be curious to see what happens in the near future with un-manned farming equipment. I know numerous people developing it.
Will be interesting to see what happens to that industry.

Pretty cool indeed. I was not raised on a farm but my dad owned a 1/2 section north of GP. He leased it out to his brothers. I am old enough to remember picking roots every summer and watching my uncle's farm with open air equipment. Back when baling wire was a farmers best friend, kinda like duck tape. Lol

Totally agree with you! A stressful under appreciated job but I would have loved the work! Always enjoyed helping out family and friends. Like others only got to drive the grain truck or rake hay. Would have to win the lottery just to afford the land, never mind the equipment these days!

All I ever got to do was pick rocks
I did shoot a helluva pile of deer on the farm before the family sold it after my uncle passed on. None of the three kids wanted to take it over. It was a sad occurrence the family farm being sold.

There are 3 generations of policing in my family but in my next life I would love to come back as a farmer/rancher. I have huge respect for what they do, the hurdles they face and how they cowboy up every spring to do it all again.

Unless you've got auto turn, just make sure you don't fall asleep, it's hard on fences....

Gps
Better than picking an object on the horizon to keep a straight line.
When its a cow the line moves when the cow keeps walking

The ability to do that has been there since the 90s and they have even admitted it. They have never gone fully autonomous for liability reasons alone. Somebody is always there to insure nothing goes sideways. However with other fully autonomous stuff going I can see it finally happening.

A farmer in our area, had a heart attack, driving his tractor, he was dead but still driving with the GPS, a very young guy tried to stop his machine at the fence line, he jumped to the cab ladder, then shut off the tractor, very scary with a 4 wheel drive tractor

Helping out my son in law in Viking area now. I would not want to have to deal with the business end of farming. No new high priced equipment here and we are getting by. It is fine with me to help out anyway I can as a jack of all trades.

Great pic's
Would have loved being born into farming 🚜
The only time I get to take part in just a little bit of it is when I head into the foothills each fall and offer some of the land owners I've met over the yrs a hand in any task they could use it, whether I am hunting there land or not. Have met some of the best people I know along with making great friends doing this.
The technology and machinery has certainly came a long way
