Default Curious how too

Wondering if anyone can help ,I’m going to be taking my children out for burnout, never actually tried for them but think the kids would find it fun,any tips on bait and depth to start is greatly appreciated tks to all that comment or reply,be safe and stay healthy everyone

I believe that they (burbot) are spawning right around now, so may be closed to fishing, depending on where you are. They spawn shallow 12' of water or so and live deeper for the rest of the year. I have caught them through the ice with a small spoon, but bait like worm or dead fish is effective for them too.
For what it's worth, AHEIA is offering the fisherman's education course for free. I am sequestered in quarantine so it was a good way to re-learn all that stuff about fishing.
