I LOVE the .240 WBY *added PICS of bullet performance
Well here is some targets from my toy I ordered up out of the USA.
Didn't take me long to find a load....now I have to find more bullets to load!
The targets below where shot off a rest @ 100yrds.
With the fouler this measures ~0.71 of an inch (4 shots)....without ~0.239! (3 shots)
To prove it wasn't a fluke....this one measures 0.361 (4 shots!)
I think she is a keeper! This spits a 90gr bullet out @ ~ 3330fps....I am hoping to surpass the 3400fps mark and maintain the accuracy.
Down to the loading room and to the range tomorrow morning while its cool and calm.

Not bad shooting Lefty, but one Canuck to another, it's like I told Huntinstuff....when i get shakey like that and my groups start to open up, I just need to switch to camomile tea and skip the coffee....Hope that helps.
BTW, if you decide you don't like that rifle, call me!

Consistency is key...
Well got back out to the range today and after trying a few more loads I had to check the same one in the OP for consistency.......it passes....
With the fouler it's 0.670 and without 0.315....
Was really hoping I would find a bullet in the 80-85gr range that I could push to 3500fps AND maintain accuracy.....seems this gun really wants to shoot the Nosler Ballistic Tip....90gr and 3350fps is all I can push and maintain this type of accuracy.
A muzzle velocity of 3350 isn't so bad.....seeing as how Nosler calls for 3200fps as a maximum velocity....according to my ballistics program this bullet is at 3198 @ 50 yards so I should be able to avoid any "bullet splash".
So far this rifle is a keeper. I picked up a set of left-hand Buehler Micro-Dial bases and rings from good friend.....I wish all bases and ring had these features. Windage and elevation adjustments on a set of bases is just awesome.

No I settled on the H4831...the 7828 was giving me more speed but less accuracy. I figured I would go for the accuracy even if the speed was slower. Ended up using the same load you had told me about for yours!

Found the same thing for my 257 Wby. 4831SC seemed the best overall.

Well thats Good it worked out...
I know that once hunting season is over Dad and I(Probably Mostly dad) are going to find the best load with the 55 grain bullets. The most accurate load for 55 grain bulltets in the nosler manual also happens to be the load with the highest velocity (4100'\sec)....IMR 4064 ,i believe??? eitherway whatever it was I know that I bought a pound of the powder last year.
I've decided that my 240wby is now strictly a varmit\antelope Rifle....However dad wants to use it again this Fall in saskatchewan because it is so easy to carry.it now has a 3x9x40 zeiss on it which makes it even lighter, the rifle weighs under 7 pounds with the scope.

Lefty great shooting and a not bad looking gun either. The 0.243 is one of my favorite calibers and a lot of great bullet choices. Now we just need to see what it does to a critter...

A buddy of mine has a Japanese made one and to be honest the Japanese ones have nicer wood (look awesome!) and the stock fits me a bit better for some reason....but having a German made one right from the Sauer factory is special in itself...It is kind of fitting because he is part Japanese and I am part German!
I checked the Weatherby website for information regarding freebore on their factory rifles, when I compared what I measured to what they say the .240WBY comes with they were both bang on @ 0.169.
With any luck I am going to try and fold a coyote with it this weekend.....just to see what happens.....

Yah thats the kind of wood on a stock that I like. Ill see if I can get my buddy to post pics of his from Japan....they are similar to your .300WBY. I wonder if back then there was multiple grades of wood for these? My .240WBY wood is really dark compared to yours and my buddies.....

Yah I might be able to win some bets with this one ....I like that its consistant with that load, I have shot it 3 times and been able to achieve dime-quarter sized groups each time. As a shooter it makes me feel like I am on top of my game too! So now I feel better that all the crappy groups I shot to get to this point were truly crappy and not me!

I am using a 90gr B-Tip. My COL is ~3.230 my chamber length to the lands is ~3.255.....so roughly about 0.025 or 25 thou from the lands. The .240WBY are manufactured with a smaller amount of freebore compared to the other Weatherby chamberings, @ right around 0.165-0.169 from what I have read and measured. The good thing is they cycle from the magazine just fine also.

Well after I got the coyote at 180 yards the other night I had to give this thing a try on some "big game".
I headed up North to catch up with my buddy who also has a lefty 240WBY. We snagged our supplemental WT doe tags for the area and went for a couple of strolls.
I managed to spot one about 250yrds down a line with a hard quartering to angle. I was using the 90gr Nosler Ballistic Tip, put it dead on to where I wanted and touched off from atop my shooting sticks. I thought she dropped in her tracks but she kicked up and wheeled and ran into the bush......get up to the spot and there she is piled up 15-20 yards from where she was.
When we were gutting her and surveying things....the bullet destroyed her heart! Was really happy about the performance and the fact I nailed a heart shot @ 250 yards. Because of the hard angle I figured the bullet was lodged in behind the diaphram or somewhere in the off side because there was no exit.
When skinning her out we found the bullet in the off-side right under the hide.....was perfect performance in my books! Expansion was 2.5 times original diameter and the bullet retained 60% of its weight......I think this rifle is going to be like lightning on deer and antelope.
Results.....
Notice bullet.....
Notice bullet removed....
My buddy got one too but I will let him tell his story
