Default Pricey

Yah, seems to be. I'll give it a go this year, but if it's not up to par, I won't be back. My friends want to go since they aren't coming to SCI with me.

Default Pricey? I think not...

You get a subscription to the African Gazette magazine. Thats worth the price of admission right there.

Checking out the Kreighoff booth will be a big eye opener for many here. You just can't go to Bass pro and see many of these types of rifles.

If the show is a success it will just get bigger and better in the years to come. Go check it out, not much else to do in the middle of winter.....

I'm going and making Tackleberry buy lunch.... snooty Krieghoff shooters should be able to cover the tab at Hooter's I would think

Maybe you should be paying for the pleasure of such company.

Besides any Holland & Holland owners on here will despise such reverence to a measly Krieghoff owner. They want to be the snooty ones...

It was a decent show. Saw tons of people we knew so it was great to catch up with them and it was really nice to sit down and chat with such a wide variety of African outfitters. Looks like we'll be going back soon.....lol It was interesting talking to the exhibitors....apparently Toronto and Atlanta shows were duds but Calgary rocked. Times are still good in Alberta.

I had a blast as well. Nice to see you and Vanessa again TJ.

Talked to a bunch of the outfitters and it is looking like I may be seeing Namibia in the near future. Some very interesting things going on there. I also me 2 very good PH's from SA that piqued my interest. Nyala is on my wish list for next time and they are way too pricey in Namibia.

I guess I could go a third time....

I thought it was a great show very fit for purpose and while like you CTG I am stoked at the thought of Nyala I have gone from sure I would make my first Africa hunt in SA to believing we will be booked in Namibia just working out some final details, with that said the one south african PH had some great prices! But the absense of a high fence is a big attraction for me.

Good to chat with Vanessa and TJ as well got a few tips that will save some hard cash,

I've seen exportable tusker hunts advertised for $25,000. That's pretty cheap compared to what they have been in the past. I've seen buffalo hunts in Zim for around $11,000.

Daily rates for DG average $1000/day. Most outfitters recommend a 21 day hunt for leopard. On top of this is the trophy fee if you're fortunate enough to kill a big tom. Then there's the tip. Then there's the dip and pack, and the shipping, and the brokerage fees, and the taxidermy costs. And don't forget the costs of your flights, about $2500/person if you want to fly cattle class. Business class is triple that.

BTW, anyone chat with Errol in the Gras Ranch booth?

There's some pretty incredible package prices on both leopard and buff these days that come in about 1/2 the price of going the daily rate route. Packages seem to be where the huge savings are these days. Everyone was more than willing to deal. I saw the Gras Ranch booth there but didn't have an opportunity to chat with him.
