That's a good one!
I got to meet Ian Tyson this last summer. Cranky ol' son of a gun, but one heck of a songwriter! His voice ain't the same as it used to be, a little more scratchy, but I think it adds character to these old songs!
Here's one of my favorites:

Heard a cool story about the Chris Ledoux song You Just Can't See Him From The Road.
Chris came in to Nashville one day, getting ready to cut a new CD. He stopped by Ed Bruce's place (Ed wrote Momma's Don't Let Your Babies Grow Up To Be Cowboys, and others) and asks him if he's got any Cowboy songs he can cut. Ed sends him over to a writers room and says to ask the guys over there. There was a guy there named Donnie Blanz who wrote for Ed's publishing company. Chris asked if they had any cowboy songs, and Donnie says something like "only cowboys left are the urban cowboys." Chris says "He's still there, you just can't see him from the road." Well, any good songwriter knows that plagiarism is the best form of flattery, so Donnie started writing a song around that line. Ed and Judith Bruce helped finish the song off, and they pitched it back to Chris a few years later! Donnie said that when Chris walked in the room that day, he had no idea who the guy was, he just looked like a beaten up cowboy who just got in off the horse!
Cool song. Cool story to go with it!

If you couldn't tell by the number of responses I've made on this thread, I'm really enjoying this! Thanks Cat for getting it started!
The Cowboy way of life is dying off. Those who still make their living doing it know the struggles. Every year there are multiple Cowboy gatherings through out Alberta, BC, and Saskatchewan to recognize the Cowboy culture and our heritage. Check out the Alberta Cowboy Poetry Association website:
http://www.albertacowboypoetry.com/c...atherings.html
Here's a list of gatherings and some reviews from the ones last year. Lots of good musicians, poets, artists and craftsmen attend these gatherings. I've been going for a few years now, and absolutely love it!

You guys are posting some awesome tunes
Glad I got to see Chris Ledoux before he passed, great show he put on in Vegas.
'Ol Eon will always be one of my faves, used to live down the road from him. Love Summer Wages ( the whole Cowboyography album, everything up to Songs from thr Gravel Road, kind of weird, there) and MURDER STEER!
Hell I'll take 'em all, I guess
