ive got a question for all you serious hunters out there. Can you recomend a good fair priced cross bow? ive been hunting for many years(rifle, shotgun) but lately ive been thinking of trying out a crossbow, im going to go bear hunting this spring so i though what better time and place to hone my bow skills shooting a bait site. any ideas?

Look at the Excalibur line. WSS stocks them. Recurve limbs vs compound wheels/cams. Easy to maintain and accurate.

x2 On everything ehntr said. I will add that they are pretty awkward and cumbersome to hunt with though.........at least the Exomax that I bought last year is. If I had to buy again I'd look harder at a smaller, less powerful crossbow over a big ol' fast one.

Yah, they're very cumbersome in the bush, but great in a tree stand or blind. As was mentioned, take a good look at Excalibur crossbows. Canadian company who really stand behind their product. Years ago, I broke my limbs with an accidental dry fire. They sent me new limbs free within a couple weeks.

Very accurate, especially with a scope, and fast. I haven't hunted with mine for a few years now, but its always fun to bring out and shoot targets. Have to be careful not to aim for the same spot though. Had the odd robin hood.

On a side not does anyone know the procedure to get medical clearance to use a crossbow during bow season. I have a son with CP he can use a regular bow but just barley, and he has expressed an interest in getting a crossbow, and now that he has a PT job he has money. Rife season has too much hiking in it, bow season and a ground blind would be more his speed.

There's a new form (3 Pages) that needs to be filled out by one of a number of different medical practitioners (ie. Doctor, Chiropractor, Physio Therapist, etc). It states that your injury is not going to improve within 3 years and you cannot draw a 40 lb conventional archery bow. It cost me about $100 for my doctor to fill mine out. You take the filled out forms to F&W, they review them and issue you with a permit for a one year period. F&W can approve up to a 3 year period of time and then you have to go through the process all over again.
