Default Case Hardened Steel

Hello
I really like the look of the case hardened steel finish. Just wondering if anybody has had this done? What was your experience? Does it compromise the integrity of the steel? Is there someone in Alberta that does it?

Any advice would be appreciated
Thanks

Colour case hardening is not like taking your rifle in to get reblued. AFAIK there may only be one or two people in the country who can reliably do this, and it can not be done just to any steel, it has to be low carbon steel (not stainless) of the right type. It is quite a process.

Out of curiosity, what are you wanting to have done?

I have a Winchester 1886 on order. I know it would look great on it. Might be a little far fetched. I was tossing around the idea and thought I would ask. I'll have to do more research.

Thanks for the info.

Oscar Kobb in New Brunswick does very nice work, and is very well respected in this field.
I have talked to him at length, and he explained just how long he soaks the parts in the kiln for , and what his results yeild.
I have also seen some of his work.
My Ruger stalking rifle is going down to him as well as my Lafeachaux 16 gauge under lever, which is a family heirloom.
