Default 2005 GMC 6.0L Knock Sensor replacement HELP.

Hi All,

Just purchased a 2005 GMC 2500HD 6.0L 4x4 truck and I need to replace both Knock sensors. Has anyone done this before and could shead alittle light on how hard it might or might not be to do it myself.
I've already replaced the plugs and wires, fan motor and resister...so I'm thinking i should be able to do this myself? Do i need to drain any fluids before i start?
I can't find any video links for this, if you know of one could ya pass it on.

Thxs for your replies!

Cheers.

the knock sensors are located center of block under the intake. should take roughly 2 to 3 hours. there are two coolant hoses that go into the throttle body. you will need to replace the intake gaskets go with the felpro permadry plus gaskets part #MS98016T you DO NOT HAVE TO REMOVE THE FUEL INJECTORS OR RAIL http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6lh_LJN04nA. here is a vid link

Pretty unusual to have a knock sensor failure -- What are the symptoms?

Either way, as mentioned above, it is not a difficult job. Just pull the intake, you'll find the knock sensors immediately below. You'll need to remove all the wiring, the steam / coolant hoses that run to the throttle body, fuel line(s).

More than likely be able to re-use the stock gaskets, though new are never a bad idea on a higher mileage engine where they may be a bit cooked.

It's throwing a code (po332)(can't 100% remember the code #). Had it at the shop today and said the code reads for the knock sensor. They quoted $700 to replace both of them, checked on the web for pricing and it looks like I can purchase some for around $50-$60. I searched you-tube but I could only find a video for a 2001 truck not a 2005. Wasn't sure if it's the same procedure. truck has 274,000km so from the way the spark plugs and wires looked when i replaced them last day I'm sure a gasket and sensors need to be done.

The engines are nearly the same between the two years, only difference being that your engine is drive by wire instead of drive by cable. Same basic procedure would apply between the two
