A little bird landed on my shoulder and I have access to a mint Sako L579 Forester Deluxe in a .308...SIN 26XXX (5 digits).

I would like to hear from the guys that own or have ever owned one and your experiences please.

As near as I can figure, it was made from 1960 - 1970?

I've had one in .308 for about 30 yrs (bought used). A delight to shoot, very smooth action. More accurate than I am. No complaints. I used it quite a bit at first, then it sat unused for 25 yrs, and the last 2 yrs have taken to it again. A sure sign of too many guns, I guess.

I had one for a few years. It was well used by the time I got it, but it was smooth smooth, a great shooter, and just an overall nice rifle. I ended up selling it though, and I shouldn't have.

are to be cherished. I have an AV that is everything mentioned so far. I had toyed with the idea that i had too many popguns and thought of selling it - but it is now a regular in the field. Smooth, accurate and a delight to shoot.

I have one of these in a 243 heavy barrel, it comes to the range frequently and may even see some gopher action soon. FS

Well my .308; L579 Deluxe arrived. It is everything I thought it would be.

It is 42" long; barrel is 22" to the front of the action; the weight is 5 3/4 pounds (no scope yet) according the my wife's food scale.

The action is as smooth as a baby's cheek. The bluing is great; even the bolt knob has 75% of the bluing still on it.

I was carried more that it was shot...a couple of minor stock rubs but still excellent. Not bad for something this old. Even has the factory Sako recoil pad.

It is in 90%-95% overall condition.

That's Sako for you.

One of the original mountain rifles long before titanium, and kevlar.

Enjoy it, those old Sako's are a thing of beauty.

Nice to hear you found yourself a nice .308. Those L579's are great. One of these days we should compare the AII with the L579.

Unlike Winchester Sako always made top quality product and continue to do so. Your 579 might have some additional value 25 years from now as long as you clean it twice a year and never shoot it. FS

Sako sure didn't cheap out.

Another fine rifle from Finland was the Husqvarana with the 98 action. The light weight 4100 with the Schnabel fore end are sweet also......Same weight as the L579, both under 6 pounds.

The 98 Mauser Husqvarnas are real nice rifles. Very well made. I have one and don't shoot it much anymore, but I keep it around because I just really like it.
