Sandwiches!!
We need a sandwich thread!
I've probably made thousands of sandwiches over the years for hubby's lunch, but I imagine it gets boring after a while...
I've tried sending him with yummy leftovers, but he often doesn't get enough time to hanker down long enough to eat and ends up hungry
So, back to sandwich making...
I've been told that I'm a good cook, but am "bread challenged" because of my celiac...
He loves fresh tomatoes and other veggies, but complains that the bread gets soggy, so I've tried sending it separate but he doesn't get time to make the sandwich, so then no veggies
So, what is your favorite sandwich? New ideas please!!
I'll share the last one I made that he actually raved about :
- Pan fried thin steaks with montreal steak spice
- topped with cheddar cheese and melted it a bit
- toasted whole wheat bread w/ butter
- mayo, mustard and pickles
- fried onions
Thanks for sharing!

Old cheddar, pepper bacon, mayo and sliced pear on rye. Butter the outside and grill in fry pan. To die for!

Focca Chicken Sandwich:
5" square of foccacia bread slice in half an grilled with garlic butter. Spread on pesto-mayo. Put grilled seasoned chicken breast. top that with aged cheddar, fresh sliced roma tomatoes and a bit of lettuce.
bbq steak or pork:
Nice big bun, I like cheddar or onion, slice and grilled with garlic butter. Spread on sweet horseradish sause (Mixture of french dressing, horse radish, mayo and a bit of honey). Pile bbq shredded pork or beef, aged cheddar, crispy fried onion strips and sliced dill pickles.
favorite "every day" sammi, summer sausage:
Brown bread, a good mustard, a bit of mayo, cheddar and thick slice deer or moose summer sausage (my favorite is from H and M meats in GP). Hunting camp heaven!!

Rye bread in the toaster, a good smear of Liverwurst just after it pops up. Kinda melts then. Camping its rye bread, mustard, cheese and your choice of sandwhich meat, wrapped up in foil and thrown onto the grille. Let the fire do the rest.

My wife is a celiac as well and we have a gluten free house, and sadly my favourite food in the world is sandwiches.
Sadly, gluten free bread does not make good sandwiches to take with you. However at home I have a sandwich press and I grill our sandwiches. The last one that I made was a marinated and grilled venison on gluten free rice bread with a spicy Mayo, old white cheddar, avocado and picked Serrano peppers, served with sliced tomato on the side.
now I bet that if I could make this on real bread of any sort it would great to take on the road!

Tell him he's a lucky man!
Mine has made maybe 4 lunches for me in the last 5 years.
But she cooks a damn good dinner so I forgive her.

Nothing like a good meatloaf sandwich. With some onions and mayo on good bread.

I like also making a capicoli and swiss cheese string with ranch dressing and ketchup mixed on one slice of toasted buttered multigrain bread, and dijon muster on the other slice of toasted butter multigrain bread...
I wrap the cheese string rods with a few thin slices of the cappicolli
Then at work I nuke for 12 seconds to soften the cheese and warm the bread...
Tastes like Mr Mikes Burger!..with a twist.....

Surely ones wife can handle Non gluten products being in the residence and avoid eating them. This way non celiacs can continue to maintain a normal diet.

try putting the tomato between 2 lettuce leaves (i like big iceberg lettuce leaves) then like cheese on top and meat on the bottom, basically put the tomato between the waterproof layers. Ligthly toasting the bread will help too (i dont like mine toasted).
current fav is slow cooker moose roast in bbq sauce then done like pulled pork on the sandwich.
I like mine double stacked and sliced in to 4 triangles. Big fan of tortilla wraps too, if hubby works manual labour, dont be afraid to make 1 double stack (3 cuts length-wise) on a bread machine loaf, can never have too much meat.
...........................never knew i so many thoughts on sandwiched.

Sorry about the photo quality... I had a flash of inspiration and just snapped these pics... AND I was hungry. lol
This sandwich is so bad *****ed and so bad for you, that the Mrs makes this sandwich literally once a year...
French toast slices (eggy bread or whatever you want to call it)
Filled with:
Sauteed onion, as dark as you can get them
Butterflied breakfast sausage
Old cheddar cheese slices.
Ketchup AND mustard. We've tried either/or...doesn't taste quite right without both.
Best if it can sit in the oven (a salamander would do too I think) for 10 minutes or so to set nicely.

My brother got my onto this. His reason was in some of the "shadier" joints, there is no way in H3LL that anyone can screw that up.... LOL

Grilled bacon, avocado and tomato. Butter the bread with garlic butter prior to grilling, yum!
My version of Kentucky Hot Brown, turkey, thick sliced bacon, grilled tomatoes, swiss cheese and hot sauce, grilled between sourdough, yum!
Beef & Pepper flatbread, can get the flatbreads from Costco. Saute thinly sliced beef with peppers and onions, grill on the flatbread (brushed with olive oil) provolone cheese and thousand island dressing, yum!
Shrimp Po' boy, crispy coated shrimps (cooked) on an italian bun or baguette with shredded cabbage, avocado and spicy mayo. Mayo mixed with red hamburger relish and hot sauce, yum!
Steak sandwich, grilled steak on toasted french bread brushed with roasted garlic, horse radish mayo, provolone and arugula tossed lightly with Italian dressing, yum!
We love sandwiches around our house

new one :)
mmmm...this one was a hit!
take cream cheese, capers, fresh dill, squeeze of lemon juice and combine to make the spread.
Toast a bagel and apply liberally... (oops, did I say a bad word??)
top with smoked salmon (LOX) and a slice of red onion.
WOW!! Hubby loved that one...make sure you both have some as it may contribute to smelly breath

The only sandwich I will eat and enjoy, other than subway, is a good old fashioned peanut butter and jelly (not jam, raspberry)

Tuna salad on brown with mustard, lettuce and chedder cheese. Mixture seems to work.
My personal favorite is mozerella thinly sliced on brown and microwaved for about 10 sec - just till the cheese melts (may have to flip once). Let sit for 5 sec and enjoy. Melted cheese has slightly different flavour than solid.
Huntinstuff - pan sear the black forest ham before putting it in sandwich, gives it a different flavour, more distinct. Fried ham and egg with cheese is a favorite in my house when I make it. My teenage son will even get out of bed in the morning for it.
