I just spent 3 days at Allstones with a couple buddies. First time there for me, but was expecting to work my fly rod 16 hrs a day. The water is quite high, pretty much to the trees, so if you're looking at fly fishing there in the next little while.....pack a spinning rod. There is just no room to cast with the water level as high as it is. Fishing was slow until last night, we hit a hot streak for about 90 minutes or so. Great little brookies in there, smoked one for a few hours and it was outstanding. I'll be back to slay that lake with flies, but I'll wait until later in the summer next time. How was the hike how far is it 5 miles isn't it

I beleive 4.6 km or so, from what I've read but I didn't track it myself. Uphill 2/3 of the way, but tolerable. I recommend trekking poles, especially if carrying a heavy pack. It took us about 3 hrs on the way in (packed with 3 days worth of gear) and hiked out this morning in about an hour and a half.

I'm going up there for a weekend with my bait caster. Any tips on what to bring for hooks?

You can get it done with chest waders in the SW corner. Otherwise pack in a float tube. 3 hours is about right. Very easy hike.

We were fishing with pickrell rigs and powerbait grubs. we were fishing off the rocks on the north side of the lake.
