Default 338 edge vs 338 ultra mag

Why build a 338 edge when you can have a 338 ultra mag? The 338 edge is a 300 ultra necked up is it not?

there is a slight advantage in case capacity, especially if you go with the 40 degree version.

The 338 ultra is a smaller case than the 300.

my 340 bee chamber spits out a 250gr at 2800 (24")
my Edge AI spits out 250gr at 3100 (30")
300gr at 2830 ( 30")
so prolly not to much gain over the regular 338 Rum( bu ti love buring powder

"powerfull" i think we are comparing apples here...

like most cartridges the bigger the case the smaller the amounts of improvement as in respect to powder burnt to velocity gained..

oh and thanks for explaining the weatherby "bee"...TM

Nah.. the .338 titan is.. the edge is not even listed as a .338 super magnum...

i looked up 338 titan, its a lazzaroni cartridge,i went to their website, wow expensive rifles. they have a tactical one that looks like the marines m40a3 its $8000.better do one hole groups for that much.

just took a quick look at the chuck hawks link...
no mention of the 300 grain bullets that are now available for the 338`s..
I think this 300 grain bullet at 3200fps is what a super magnum is at...
but from the 338 federal to the 338 snipe tac , the 338 give a wack of a punch for ur buck ...pun intendend ,,

Come on Wolf, I can do One Hole groups all day long with my .338 LM Savage... Granted they're one shot groups... But Hey!

Both are good rounds, ballistically speaking, they're twins. But I'd go with the Edge over the RUM. Reason being that the RUM, even though it's *based* on a .300 RUM case, it's 0.090" shorter, beltless, rebated rim cartridge. The Edge is a .300 RUM case necked up, not any shorter. Once you have dies for it, brass should be easier to find and cheaper. From what I've read on them, I don't have any personal experiance with either, just the Lapua.

if i was to build 338 again it would be a LImpy ..
but between the 338 rum and 338/300rum... i would go with the 338 Rum its shorter and u can seat the big 300 grain bullets out farther in a long action and have a repeater and lots of bottom metal to choose from...my Edge is a single sshot when seated long.. You loose a bit of speed what maybe 100fps but so what...
just turn the dial up...
