We've had a terrible time with ants at our place. We've tried everything short of a professional exterminator to get rid of them.

The best we've been able to do is to keep with out of the house with glasses of Blue Raspberry Kool-Aid. Seriously. We set up glasses of Blue Raspberry Kool-Aid around the perimeter of the house and the little beasts flock to it and drown themselves. Very few wind up in the house.

For some reason it has to be the Blue Raspberry Kool-Aid for the ants we've got. We've tried several different Kool-Aid flavours, Ice Tea (from a powdered drink mix), Country Time, Coke, Pepsi . . . and nothing attracts them like the Blue Raspberry Kool-Aid does.

Icing sugar with powderd borax 50 -50%
Cleared out some big multiple hills this year. Got challenging when we had all the wet weather replacing the bait but someone said put it in an aluminum plate (like meat pie) and staple another one on top. Poke pencil holes in side of bottom plate so they can access it. I am going to try this method today as found poplar tree in the front yard crawling with them on the weekend.

Does any one notice, are there more ants around this year? Is it to do with the hot weather?

X2, if you mix and boil it in a little bit of water, just enough to make a syrup, and drop it in and around the house, doesn't leave such a mess of white powder all over the place. The ants take this back to the nest, it kills all including the eggs that hatch.

Default Ants

I have had good results with Splenda sweetener. It takes 7-10 days, but works very well. just spread a couple packs around the hill. The ants will do the rest.

used antbegone outside and it worked fairly well...when we moved into the house we have now there was a bad ant problem...only thing that fixed it was an exterminator.

I use the liquid ant bait by raid that contains borax. Sure slows down the amount of ants around in a hurry. Been using Ant Out Spray at the entrances to the hills (spray some on the ants running around too) and the ant powder after that. Tired of losing poplars at the cabin to these ants.

Sounds like someone has some shares in KoolAid Blue Raspberry!!!
Just kiddin, may be worth a try. Been trying the splenda thing with no luck but I think with all the rain you need to be persistant. Little bit of oil (vegetetable of course ) worked out back.

diatomaceous earth, sticks to the ants body, then cuts throught the waxy exoskeloton then absorbs all the moisture from there body..natural, cheap and somewhat effective. especially if your dealing in lawns where chemicals are in direct contact with kids or pets.

You can still buy malathion at Peavey Mart. It is in liquid form, not the powder widely used years ago. My MIL had a SEVERE infestation all over her yard and even in her house. At any given time you could see several hundred on her floor and counter. One application of malathion along the outside of her house and on several ant hills in her lawn and its tough to find any ants now.

ONE SHOT for ants. Squirt the foam into the hill or holes ... they are gone like last week.

Malathion (spelling) safe around plants, veggies, pets, etc, and kills ants almost instantly.

Good luck

Default Ants

In the Grain Industry diatomaceus earth is called Protect-it or Insecto, it mosty prevents grain beetles from ruining grain in bins or sheds, scars up the hard shell and they dry up. Most farm supply stores should have it or try a large garden centre and no more ants.

The best suff we ever used. Go to ant hill with stick poke hole as far down as you can. Mix one cap of Malathion in a 1 liter bottle fill with water poor in hole you poked. Also have used a product called Home Defence smeed to work pretty good to.
