Default South Africa Poor man Safari

Well I finally got some pic's to post of my wifes and my safari to RSA for plains game..... what a trip we planed on taking a few animals but we took a few more then we planned.
We took 12 animals in all and loved the way our guns performed, my wife shoots a home built 7X57 and I was using a TC oncore in 50 cal ML and a home built barrel in 6.5 - 30-40 Krag - mod.
Using Nosler and Berger bullets most shots were in the 300 yd range and all one shot kills and none required tracking which we were pleased with. Every animal was down and out which was a surprise to our outfitter. We assured him if we could get the time to place a longer shot we would prefer that to a rushed shot in closer. I think we made a believer out of him.
This entire trip turned out to be less then a trip to northern Quebec for caribou.
If you plan on going do a lot of asking around this is a one man show and a lot cheaper then those high paid add guys believe me. Great accommodation's hospitality, PH, guide, and chef, historian and travel guide... and all one guy...
It made for a very special and friendly trip with lots of laughs and a truly good time with no pressure just great spot and stock hunting in rough mountain country. And on the third day there my wife said to me " you know were coming back" you bet we are !!!
Happy hunting boys

Tom,

Thanks for posting photos. Details, we need details. Where were you, the PH's name, the cost, etc... Seems like more and more ofus are making it over to Africa.

Tell me more about the Bergers. I intend on Using 168 VLD's out of my 7RM for PG in March.

Yes it is a Fallow deer I had a opportunity at a really great one but was uncertain about the background for the shot so I passed filmed it instead and on the last day at that area I took this one but his left pan is broken so he's not as impressive.
The hunt was at a place called Ladygrey which is north west of East London
about a 5 hour drive its in really rugged mountain area. Great for some longer range shooting. Then we moved to a area close to Fort Beaufort which is closer to the coast south west of East London. Where we took the Impala and warthog.
As far as Berger bullets are concerned they worked like a dream good carry up with a good penetration before opening up. As far as my wifes 7mm we used the old Nosler 150 gr solid base soft point which haven't been made for years (dumb buggers great bullets )!! We never got the 140 grain bullets prior to hunt from Eric at Berger. I have been beating the drum with him and Berger to build a lighter 140 gr 7mm for a long time and 4 days before we left for Africa he emailed me and told me they were going to come out with it.. Well I was in wholesale sports today and they have Berger in stock but NO (&*%(^&%$^&$&$* 140 gr 7mm. **** me off because I think they are the real answer to the smaller case long range guns.....
Just my Idea!!!!!
