Smile 22 Long rifle ammo shortage! What next!

Just got back home from the 'States. In a conversation with a sales associate I know in a certain sports shop in Kalispell, he asked me if there was a 22 LR rimfire ammo shortage in Canada. Evidently, it is scarce as hen's teeth in the Flathead Valley. Have guys been hoarding that stuff too? To my knowledge here in Canuck World you can get as much as you need. Guess nothing is for certain when you look for ammo nowadays. Very hit and miss down there and here as well with acquiring some CF calibres.

Not much brick wise around whitecourt lately, at least not at can tire or wally world. Noticed wally world had 4 boxes of Winchester 333 a few days ago, so I bought them all. Don't think I've seen bricks here since spring

I don't know who you're talking to? Flys Etc. in High River has buckets of 22 ammo. You buy 22 ammo now, not come summer.

Lots at the shops in GP, Barton's has a skid of various .22 ammo... I'd hit cabelas if I was in your boots and grab 2 FLATS of federal 525 value packs like I did last time I was there

A case holds 10 bricks, generally 5000 rounds. You shouldn't pay more than around $200 per case

Anyone know of anywhere in Calgary selling the federal 525 packs in bulk for these prices? Or Remington subsonics.

I dont think you looked very well. I have bought some at Canadian tire and have seen them in there quite a few times. I look at the ammo case every time I go in. Have not been into Stoney Creeks new location yet though.

Odd isn't it that the stuff is abundant hereabouts, yet scarce in the US markets.

iirc, there was a huge 22LR shortage this time last year and not every local cdn retailer is now fully stocked.

A box is 50, a carton is 500, and a case is 5000
At least that's what it used to come in back in the day!!
I still buy mine by the case when I need it.

That's still how it is around here. I stock up every fall/winter and always have plenty all summer long.

seems like we don't have a shortage yet. But if everyone buys as much as the truck will hold we will be able to say we have a shortage just like the Americans ..

I try a box or two, and if it shoots good in my rifle, I buy a case of 5000. I still have three cases of 22lr on hand, two RWS, and one SK.

I would like to know too. The cheapest I saw (in summertime mind you)was $23/box or about $230+tax for a case. It's now $29/box or about $300 after tax for a case.

Default stocking up

A few years ago now you could by cases of 4000 American Eagle at Wholesale for less than $150 the 38gr HP was the best of the cheapies in all of my CZ rimfires. Now we are talking about $200 for a case and higher. 22 ammo has a very long shelf life so if you love to shoot it and who doesn't I would think it would be something that most avid shooters would want to buy a case or 2 of.. my CT has a 2 box limit on 22lr and down south of the border hoarding is a problem. certain people buy ALL the rimfire ammo at wally world, and then set up a table at a gunshow and scalp the ammo for double or triple.

It's scarce everywhere down here. .22 and most pistol calibers are near impossible to find down here.

Well bass pro had literally no .22 at all. Plenty of 17hmr and some new 17wsm Rimfire.

There is still a fair bit of .22lr available at retail. The wholesalers (who supply the retailers) are mostly all out.

I've started to buy a box of something I can use anytime I walk into a wal mart or canadian tire and they have stock..
On my way to finally having a stash and not just being one of the people scrambling to buy ammo the day before I plan to shoot
