Default Kid's Fishing

Hey Guys, just a quick question. Does anyone here know of a good place to take my kids fishing this summer, where we'll have some pretty guarenteed action? I live in Calgary, and know that there are some stocked ponds out there, but have yet to try alot of them. My son is 5 and my daughter will be 2 in June. I'm just thinking of a nice family outing to start the kids on the road.

I have taken my son out several times with no sucess, and the only time we ever did catch anything, I had to fly the whole family to Nova Scotia last summer. We went out for Mackeral on a Lobster boat and caught a bunch (much to the chagrin of the whales!). It was lots of fun, but frankly, I'm looking for something a little less costly! lol :b

Any advice would be apreciated.

Mount Laurette pond in K-Country is usually good, especially right after they stock it. Allen Bill Pond is another one worth trying.

Some kid friendly lakes are Chain Lakes, Dewitt's Pond, Mclean Pond, they are all stocked and you can use bait and they are great places for the kids to get started on fishing.

Oh yah forget to tell you that at Chain Lakes there is a kids trout pond there so the young guys have a chance of catching a few trout.

Small tip but you guys gotta promise not tell anybody about this.

At Spruce meadows they stock the pond with Trout and allow it to be fished on a catch and release basis. It is great for kids as the grass is mowed all around it and there is a playground if they get bored of the fishing. Can't beat it for easy access and get the kids interested in fishin.

Keep it under your hat.

Hey Tree...the Sarcee Fish and Game Association also has a fishing pond north of Calgary. I'm not certain what the requirements for fishing it are but you could sure contact them and find out. They are great about providing opportunities for youth.

Sheep,
you beat me to it that is what I was thinking. One of the many reasons I joined that club. I live in NE Calgary so to get there should be easy, I am thinking it will be a great way to spend an evening after work or to head there for an afternoon picnic on the weekend!

Hey Fall,

Can you enlighten me about joining the 'club'? I'm in NW Calgary and it would be a cool way to spend a summer evening with my kids if it's that close to home.

Tree,
Look at www.sarceefishandgame.ca, it has most of the infor there. With membership your included in the Alberta fish and game Association as well. The group does some good things and has some interesting events as well, take a look. Worth the 25 buck, I figure. Good Luck

I vote for chain lakes too. Nice drive, not TOO far, and my boys always snagged some nice little rainbows. Nothing big, rarely brought any home, but nice. YOu can fish off the rocks right at the north end. Easy access for little ones (easy 200 yard walk)
