Default Best all season tire?

Besides what is on sale. :-)

Does anyone have a recommendation for a 16" all season tire? Thanks.

Michelin Latitudes. Wife got 100,000km on her first pair on her escape and never a problem traction wise with them in the winter. When it came time for new ones she insisted on the Michelins again. Said she never had a worry when driving to work in snow storms or freezing rain.

Most all season tires give only a casual nod to winter performance, I prefer a company that takes the approach of giving winter more of a priority than the fair seasons in their all-season tire line-up:

http://www.nokiantires.com/winter-tires/nokian-wrg3/

After all, its really the only season to focus on when it comes to tire performance!!

I don't have much experience in non truck tires, but I can say I don't recommend Goodyear assurance triple thread. The ex had them on her car, probably the worst tire ever made. Wore fast, sucked in rain, worse in snow/slush, horrible on ice and picked up more nails screws and any kind of metal better than a magnet

For black top driving, I like Michelin X-ice. For back roads/off road, Goodyear Duratrac.

I run bridgestone blizzak on my nissan rogue - similar size vehicle.
We find them to be a very grippy tire, both highway and city.
Previously we ran the michelin xi3 I believe it was (big version of xice) and it performed the same if not bigger.

My experience is Nokian makes a great winter tire as well.

I ran the WRG2's on my Subaru, they were great in winter and summer. I hit a moose and wrote off that car about 30000 km's into their life so I cant comment on their longevity.

Next car I bought had Goodyear Assurance Triple Treads. I bought the Nokian Hakka 7 (205 65 R16) for winter and I couldn't believe the grip compared to the WRG2. Not saying the WRG2 is poor but the Hakka felt and drove like a performance winter tire.

So now my plan is to replace the Goodyear Triple Tread with a WRG3 for non winter driving and rock these Hakkas November - April.

I'm gonna post the obvious question..

Define "Best".

as by definition, all seasons are average in all types of weather conditions, although they may excel at one season (typically summer).

Everything I have read, says the best all season for winter, is a nokian all season. But they don't last as long as any other all season, because as cabertosser mentioned, they put softer compound on for better winter traction.

But IMHO, you wouldn't catch me or my family without a proper winter tire. I have never heard someone complain about the added traction vs all seasons. It's usually people that don't have (or have never tried) winter tires that complain about cost.

BF Goodrich All-Terrain T/A KO2 are all season tires and have winter tire designation.
They are rated 10 for off road. 9 for Wear life and 6 for comfort and fuel efficiency.
I have them on my new FJ but only 11000 km on it so not enough for review.

I am looking for tires for wife's Suzuki Grand Vitara and as she has set of winter tires I think Michelin Latitude Tour is forerunner as is rated 10 for comfort 9 for fuel efficiency. Limited 6 y warranty and tread wear warranty of 110 K km. Only 5 rating for off road but she never leaves pavement.

Second vote for the Nokian WRG3's. I put them on my wifes Hyundai Santa Fe and she just loves them. They are all season rated and they have the winter snowflake endorsement. About $800 installed for 16"

Had the WRG2's on my wifes old Rav4, she wasn't a big fan of them, but they wore pretty good for her, we did have to get 2 rebalances on them.

Went to a dedicated winter tire this time around on her newer Rav4, she is running the Nokian Hakkapeliitta R2's. Pretty decent all round for winter. I've got the older version of the same on my Subie, I'm thinking next time, I'm going to step up to the studded Hak 7's for ice. I had the Goodyear triple treads before, and for me they wore good, but I found them noisy, and they also required a couple rebalances over time even with proper rotation.

I'd have to agree with gray wolf..

Great 3 season tire, downright deadly in the winter though. There are much better options.

I had really good luck with the Michelin Ltx on a ford explorer actually turned it into a real 4x4....

10/10 out of B.C. had the best online prices by far, next was tire rack out of the states.

Nokian WRG's if its just city/highway

BFG AT2 KO's if you ever get into mucky stuff or deeper snow.

Really though dedicated summers/winters is the best.

Also I don't know where you're located, but as recommended to me from another forum member, Wetaskawin OK Tire has excellent prices. Not sure if they carry either of the tires I mentioned though lol, (Got Toyo AT2's there, great tires, but might be too aggressive for your use)

Another vote for the ALL WEATHER Nokians WR. I never new there was a difference between all weather and all season but I guess there is. I've got them on my wives Acura and my Tacoma and have been very happy. They are the best tires I've used in rain and they are great in the snow. I was always a Michelin buyer but not anymore. It never thought I'd find a winter tire that was great in North Vancouver, Calgary and High Level !!!
