C8 patrol carbine vs Mini 14
In regards to the rcmp getting issued a c8 patrol carbine I'm wondering what would be more accurate. C8 or mini 14?

Mini vs C8
There are variants of the mini that are more 'tactical' but as a simple layout, I would argue that the C8 is a much better choice. The mini is great, and I love mine but the ergonomics of a patrol carbine much better fit the purpose of a mountie's response imo. To the strict question of accuracy, good question. I at least hope they will have optics on their carbines. Too bad bs took it this long to get those rifles.

Not the c8 but I was issues a S&W MP15 for my patrol rifle while a buddy who worked for a neighboring agency was issued a mini14. Needless to say his do wished they could have m4s like we did. I'd argue they're more accurate and user friendly. I'd say reliability goes to the mini as I imagine the RCMP won't be getting the piston models. The m4 would be my pick for an immediate action drill if a mis function occurred but I've spent years operating that style rifle. Plus the available support for any of the m4 variants is going to be more readily available than the mini. I've owned both an m4 and mini and but only kept the m4.

if accuracy was the only metric, I think the C8 would be the better choice.

LMFAO!
Classic. When we were calving and having wolf issues I contacted the CFC and they said as a legitimate use, they would strongly consider that.
Unfortunately I was too darn busy to follow up!!!

Mini-14 was the go-to patrol rifle for some police forces in the 1980s. If you watched any of the response to the Charlie Hebdo attacks, you may have caught a glimpse of some French police carrying Mini-14 variants.
Around the turn of century, police forces switched over to M4 variants for good reason. M4 is a more accurate, flexible platform than the sole-sourced Ruger (with its various quirks).
In Canada the Mini-14 is still non-restricted, whereas, any M4 variant requires RPAL.

Wasn't it a Mini14 that Marc Lepine used in the Poly Massacre leading up to the AR and AK variants being restricted??

Mini 14 isn't para military enough for the guys in black balaclavas. I's all about image, don't kid yourself.

I cant speak to much on the mini-14, having only fired them a couple times. The C8, the actual real deal C8, I have fired tens of thousands of rounds through. They are dependable, ergonomic and easy to shoot. The Diemaco/Colt Canada C8's are a ridiculously accurate rifle especially for a factory rifle even with battle trigger. There hasn't been one that with factory match ammo that I haven't been able to get to shoot MOA and had one that was way better then that.

It was, and was left out of the big reclass that happened back then. Can't say why, but I won't argue it. Too much has been reclassed for one crap reason or another.

And to make matters worse he tried to mod the mini to be an automatic... and succeeded only in making it a non-repeating firearm... he had to re cock for each shot...
One mentalcase later, and ALL firearms owners suffer...
