I am curious about where the cougar was shot because I hunt out there and have seen cougar tracks near our camp. A rough estimate would suffice> BL

Glad to see you got the photo posted Mike, sorry my attempts failed, that is one awesome Cat. Congrats to your buddy that harvested that one.
If your buddy could cough up a few more details that would be cool... such as what make/model/caliber of wepon did he use? What was the cost of such a guided hunt? If he appreciated the work of his guide/outfitter here's a chance to fill us in, maybe someone else on here would want such an experience. Come to think of it, I would enjoy taking a big Cat like that with my Marlin .444 XLR.:eek

Here is a quick story of the hunt for this Cat . A longer version with more pictures will be sent to the Alberta outdoorsmen magazine . The cat was taken in the North Saskatchewan river drainage management area. It was a guided hunt through Big Cat Adventures (Brian Chorney). It started out being a bow hunt but the animal was harvested with a 270 Winchester . So now that I've wet your whistles you'll just have to read the whole story in the magazine onces it's published .

Way to go Mike, how to help sell the magazine, (I renewed my sub*****ion in Alberta Outdoorsmen for another 2 year term, 2 months ago). I will look forward to reading the whole story in the magazine. Any idea what month this story will be published in?

the more i see these big felines getting hunted the more nervous i am about going out west without a gun.
mind you, if your number comes up and a 170# cat comes from above, a gun wouldnt help you anyway.
anyways...great animal good going

Default Third time the charm

I was the one that snapped the picture. For all of you that think it's that easy to get a lion it's not we went out 6 day's of 8 to 10 hour's each day before we got this lion. But boy was it worth it. I have hunted alot of different animals but there isn't any hunt in my mind that will give you more of a rush then hunting cougers. Boys give it a try you won't be sorry.

dont have one,
i have been fortunate enuf to call in a sow and two her two grown cubs with a pred call on the north fork of praire creek road. at 16 feet from the muzzle i was a little nervous, and she about-faced.
nothing but pure evil in those black eyes...thats all i remember in the 30 second encounter. at least she come in from the side i was intently watching

I know a hardcore sheep hunter who said cougars the toughest hunt he's ever done. He said following the dogs through thick brush for 6-8 hrs at near sprint almost killed him. Cat got away as well. He only spent 2 or 3 days out before the season shut down but i know he was trying to go again this year.

ihave to agree with the sheep hunter guy, it was three days from sunrise to sunset till the 4 day we finally caught up to him, and chasing after them dogs on a good run is very hard work...two muley does and a moose we come across that it had killed..awsome hunt..

I also agree although my cat last year i had it fairly easy, got the perfect conditions with a really fresh track and it was only about 4 hours later it was in the tree the last time. I have pics i will post later.
