Default Blind Conviction

Tomorrow it’s time to climb back in the box and see what’s traveling my end of the world.

I set out the trail cams, about 7 weeks back and while doing so I checked how my blinds made it through the winter. Mother Nature installed a fantastic security system at the one blind.

The trail cams show some promising candidates too, so here’s hoping.

The dawns early light.

About 4 mins before legal light.

And our first 2 contestants of the season, pretty much spot on at sunrise.

At 4 feet square stretching out and snoozing isn’t an option. But with 9000btu/hr on tap, a guy certainly can do some neck breakers from time to time.

Made a change of venue, after setting up the cellular trail cam at my other spot.

Here’s a 270 degree panorama of tonight’s sit.

Is your blind on public or private, looks too nice to last long on a public piece.

My blinds are on private properties.

There are 3 blinds in total, 2 which are 4 feet square, the third is 6 feet square.

Pack a lunch, a thermos of coffee, fire up the heater, and go dawn till dusk. The gas bill shrinks, and the opertunities when they happen are so much more relaxing. The only thing that takes a shalacing is my data on my phone.

I’d say a small price to pay... (or large depending on your carrier) what rifle are you packing for your blind work?

This mornings sit was my Ruger #1 RSI in 7x57.
Longest shot at that blind is 200 yards, but most game cross at less than 100 yards.

I used that rifle last year on a doe.

This afternoon I have my .280AI in the blind with me, the longest shots here are around 300 yards. 150’s at 3k give a good account of them selves on most game up to around 400 or a bit more.

The 6 square blind presents some hum dinger distances, for that one we often bring more than 1 rifle, something for 0-300, and something for the 300 plus stuff.

That’s a .260 Rem with a #5 contour 8 twist barrel. It sends 140’s along at a smidge over 2800fps, and puts those 140’s into 0.5 MOA quite consistently.

That ruger is a beauty, the number 1 is one of my favourite rifles... it’s just so damn hard to find a quality one that isn’t overpriced. Good luck in the blinds, they sure look comfy!

Very nice set up you have there Dick! For your coffee machine do you use a percolator, drip, or a full on espresso machine?

Great looking set up. Please keep the pics coming. I agree with whomever said that the Ruger #1 is a beauty of a rifle.

I saw 4 does on my evening sit. And one coyote who secumbed to a splitting head ache.

2 of the does walked from 350 yds to 130 yds before turning to the west and waking back into the bush.

I prefer my Stanley thermos. I take my coffee black these days, I like Kicking Horse 454HP for a dark rich flavour, I just brew it at home with our Bunn.

When Rugersingle comes out he brings his Jet Boil, and makes himself mochachino’s, using Nescafé Rich and Carnation hot chocolate.

What a difference 15 hours can make.

Only a single doe this morning, around 9:30........

That blind with the bale looks real similar to a blind that neighbors land we own. Lol

I see you are SW of Edmonton(yes I checked your past posts)
That blind (6x6 with bale) is in a WMU some 6 hours north and west of the big E.

Ah pure coincidence I guess. You got a good design for the blind that's for sure.

Got a wee bit pinned down by 4 whitetail does this evening.
They sauntered out of the willows straight north of the blind.

They all walked within 10 yards of the blind, then they headed east, and carried on doing deer stuff.

The sit finished off with 2 more does which crossed in the usual fashion.

I referred to tonight as close encounters of the cervid kind.
