Default Help with a "possession limit" question

I'm taking my oldest daughter and Dad fishing tommorrow to Travers Res. I am a little unclear on the number of fish we can bring home.

She's 5 and he's 76...neither need a license but they still have to follow the regs. according to what I read.

If the limits are 3 walleye over 50cm and 3 pike over 63cm, can we keep 9 of each or just the 3 and 3 for me since I am the only license holder? I am thinking that each of us has our own limit of 3 for both species.

Hopefully this makes sense the way I have typed it...

Can anyone clear this up for me?

To be sure, just call Fish n Wildlife but I agree... I would have to assume that means per person. GoodLuck!

Sorry to burst your bubble, but I was talking to my fishcop neighbour, and he told me that the fish that the young one might catch are part of either of the adults limit. It only makes sense, as the Huts or the White Russians from Plamondon would clean out our lakes!!!!

does this mean that if a 15 yr old kid went fishing by himself, he couldn"t keep any fish?

Could you ask your neighbour to point out in the "Alberta Guide To Sportfishing Regulations" where this is stated?

Or if it is not there ask him to tell you what section of the ACT or REGULATIONS this is stated in?

I'm having a hardtime believing Unclebuck was talking to a "fishcop" if he was told that a child can't have his/her own limit.

That being said the kid has to catch them by themselves. In other words Dad can't catch 6 while the baby is a sleep in the bassinet.

strange.

Most jurisdictions allow under 16 fishing without a licence but require the catch to be recorded on an accompanying adults licence. I can not find that in the regs. Therefore unless missed...kids get their own limit. This is somewhat troublesome as it makes it more difficult to manage a fishery when there is a mystery layer killing fish.

Especially when many parents just bring their children along to play on the ice so that the parents can keep more fish while ice fishing.

I'm fairly certain this used to be in the regs in previous years. When I read the original post in this topic, I did a quick check of this year's regs & could find no reference to it???

"Alberta Sportfishing Licence Requirements
An Alberta Sportfishing Licence is required to fish in Alberta (see Licences and Costs, above). If you are under 16 years of age, an Alberta resident aged 65 or older, or a registered Indian under the Indian Act, you are not required to have a Sportfishing Licence, but you must follow sportfishing regulations. Sportfishing licences are not required when a person is sportfishing on a designated Free Fishing Weekend. "

pg 16 of the regs.

And the regulations clearly state the catch limits and since they are bound by the Alberta fishing regulations then they are bound by the catch limits also.

A few years ago as a family we were camping in B.C., didn't want to buy a licence for myself, because of the cost, but the boys were under 16 and old enough to fish without me, sure glad I didn't allow them to fish. While picking up the regulation book, so we knew the possession limits, mentioned it to the issuer and was told I had to get my licence and any fish they caught would go against my possession limit. Those are the rules in B.C..
Check the province's fishing regs before you let your kids fish because you may have to hold a licence.

Troller...that is exactly the way I read it so I assumed that each of us has our own limit. I am the only one required to get a license.

Of course, there is that one caveat printed on the regs that says these rules are just general info and that they cannot be used to defend your ***** if you get busted for something and therefore not worth the paper they are printed on. The 'official' rules and regs are somewhere else...where that is, I do not know.

Hence the reason I originally posted the question: I figured somebody on here would have the end-all, be-all, 100% guaranteed or your money back answer for me. And by the discussion here, there still seems to be some confusion over the answer. So I don't know if the case is closed...but I am going to play it just as I interpreted what I read as that seemed to make sense to me.

Thanks everyone for chipping in on this one...

This is a little clearer

"Q5: A:

Do kids and seniors have the same daily limits as everybody else?
Yes. The limits are the same for kids and seniors."

But kids can get their own license in a national park if they are under 16 so they can keep their own limit..not that we keep fish in the NP anyway.
