Default Training like a madman

Well fellas winter was a little hard on me and bear season did no justice for the old roof over the tool shed.

I showed up at work at 202 pounds after spring this year and i could just feel i was so out of shape with a little jiggle to the wiggle.

so i said thats it, i got back on eating properly and training with my pack and jogging. down to 189 tonight and feeling alot better,

With a bull elk tag i drew in wyoming this year agian and a alaskan brown bear hunt in sept i need to be in shape.

Anybody else started there training for elk and sheep season yet.

I totally stopped eating at fast food joints and got back on the salads and fruit smoothies again. anybody else have any little tricks they use to get back in shape, its so easy to get outa shape and so hard to get into

Just got the call that my Mtn bike is tuned and ready. I started riding it the other day to get into some semblance of shape (other than round). Riding the coulee hills with minimal gear help wasn't fun.... ended up walking up a couple. But with the recently tuned bike look out. I also do the stairs at one of the local parks, run up walk down. I've got a Mtn caribou hunting coming in early Sep and want to give my best effort.

Been running some and plan on hitting the hills hard for the next couple months. Man, this doesn't get easier as you get older.

Running twice a week...Sit-ups and push-ups three times a week. Hiking to the top (or close to it) of Grande Mountain twice a week. Going to start doing some overnighters with full back country gear starting in July. Your not kidding Sheephunter....definately gets tougher as you get older! Can't seem to loose my XMAS fat!!

Busted my wrist and a rib falling roller skiing (nothing broken, just sprained and bruised)... down in the dumps I am. I trained hard all through winter (biathlon). But this happening just as I was going to hit the hills is tough mentally. Got a few hikes in though, but now going up hill is torture. Ah well, we'll bounce back. I think I will be as fit at the end of the season as I should have been at the start. ;-)

I try to train all year with a few breaks here and there. I try to stay in good enough shape to hunt sheep in case I get the urge to go.

I've always struggled with my wieght. I'm a big guy. 6'0" and currently at about 240lbs. (at my worst two years ago I was 265) I bike Nose Hill 2-3 times a week pushing hard the whole time. Takes me about an hour to do the whole loop. Despite my weight, I've probably summitted over 30 mountains in K-country. Doesn't make it easy though.

Been trying to eat right and drastically cut down on my alchohol intake, but I'm still a fattie. Guess my Viking Norwegian genes keep me stocked for winter all the time.

One day though, I'm going to get down to 200lbs. That's my goal.

I have been eating well and training lst some weight too but alas, I have the same genes.
Now obviously beer will make you fat but what if you drink rye and coke zero?
Would the two-fingers of rye make me fat? I find a shot of Wisers with dinner takes the "sharp edges" off

Alcohol doesn't really make you fat, it keeps you fat.....

Alcohol calories
According to conventional wisdom, the infamous "beer belly" is caused by excess alcohol calories being stored as fat. Yet, less than five percent of the alcohol calories you drink are turned into fat. Rather, the main effect of alcohol is to reduce the amount of fat your body burns for energy.

Some evidence for this comes from research carried in the American Journal of Clinical Nutrition [4]. Eight men were given two drinks of vodka and sugar-free lemonade separated by 30 minutes. Each drink contained just under 90 calories. Fat metabolism was measured before and after consumption of the drink. For several hours after drinking the vodka, whole body lipid oxidation (a measure of how much fat your body is burning) dropped by a massive 73%.

Rather than getting stored as fat, the main fate of alcohol is conversion into a substance called acetate. In fact, blood levels of acetate after drinking the vodka were 2.5 times higher than normal. And it appears this sharp rise in acetate puts the brakes on fat loss.

Regular exercise will help but the biggest thing is diet.Try cutting high starch foods, mainly carbs, and sugars and you will see results. Eating many small healthy meals a day will keep your metabolism rolling.You can eat lots but you gotta eat right!It works but it ain't easy!

been running 10 k a day mixed with situps and pushups... I am losing a bit of weight but mostly converting weight.

I was at 220 a month ago and now only at 214..... although a morning movement could count for the difference easily!

I have been shifting my diet from elk to fruit as the supply runs out but find eating healthy to be a chore.

Yeah.. I feel REALLY REALLY sorry for all you Fat bazterds.

But on a positive note I managed to break the 310 pound mark this AM.
All this baseball and activity is really paying off. I feel better, I sleep better, I have more energy. Life is good and getting better everyday.

This is what my week has looked like since last Friday. I know if I had been at my heaviest (100 and some odd pounds ago)they would have found me under the bleachers with some kids poking my lifeless body with a stick

Pack and move 13 Truck loads of boxs (With help of course)
7 head coach Ball games
2 Umpire turns
1 Assist coach game
Rake diamonds with quads
Watch the 3 SLOWEST movers in history GRRRRR
Deal with Telus
Deal with Shaw
Get new office set up
Get new house set up
Work 4 different Real estate deals
Mow lawns.

Rest of the week looks like this
Wed = final clean on old house
Wed = Baseball (Kids) Final game of the season
Thur = Put together Condo sale
Thur = Baseball (Slo pitch)
Friday = Turn over our old home
Friday = put together home sale
Friday = Same as above, different deal
Friday = Rake diamonds
Friday = Baseball (Slo Pitch)
Friday = pack kids and wife to go to cabin with out me
Sat = Rake diamonds
Sat Baseball = 2 games (Slo Pitch)
Sat night = wrap up party for.. You guesed it BASEBALL
Sunday mow lawns and recover from above, pack to go Salmon fishing
Monday = Vancouver, Prince Rupert
Monday afternoon = Throw Cell phone in ocean

Then to top it all off this has been THE busiest spring real estate market we have had in some time. I am not sure exactly how many days in a row we have worked but I would guess its somewhere in the range of 120 straight without a full day off.

I do know if it hadnt been for my Dad (Grampa Jim), my family would not have been able to keep up. I hope we thanked him enough.

Only this weight loss has allowed me to keep up. Keep it up boys, it feels better!!

Jamie

I joined the gym (foreign concept for me) back in January and have been going fairly regularly since. The toughest part like others have mentioned is getting the diet modified enough to reap the full rewards of training and to keep dropping weight. I've tried to combine that with some hiking to break in not only myself, but new boots and a new pack. So far the hiking has consisted mainly of coulee country with only one jaunt into the mountains so far. The goal from here on in is more mountain hiking time, and to also keep increasing the weight in my pack. Am I in better shape than recent years? Certainly, but I was behind where I should have been in the first place, so I still feel like I have a ways to go. Now if only I could find a leg stretcher - or hunting partners with shorter legs, or maybe hobbles would work.

It's this simple...

Burn more calories than you take in and you'll lose weight.

Since I started hitting the bike hard, I've lost about 15lbs in about 2 months. Just need to maintain it and get some hiking in. When I first started, I basically passed out halfway up Nose Hill. (I go straight up a fairly steep part in the SW corner of the park) Now I can make it to the top without stopping except for one really steep part where I seem to spin out all the time. This usually results in crotch smashing some part of the bike that hurts.

It's made a huge difference already though. Way more energy, but I've hit that plateau that makes it hard to drop the next bunch.

Days that I bike, I don't drink because that just wrecks the previous workout. Hoping to get out to the mountains sometime soon. Might do Prairie Mtn for a quickie but tough one Friday after work. Already have done most of the Elbow Loop on the bike both ways till the pass had too much snow.

Gotta be good enough to go in 23 more sleeps.....too late for any training

It's time to fatten up and eat all the good things I like so the bodies full of everything that it ain't gonna get from oatmeal and MH.

Next week I'll give the old toes their yearly MacKenzie Mt. pedicure and rip my toe nails off.....that'll give them a couple of weeks to heel and I won't have to worry about any issues up there

Training now consists of 12 oz weights with lots of repetitions and running around trying to find a good plum brandy to take in for a little nightly schnick.

Happy hills boyz,

tm

I wore size 28 Wranglers until I was 30 years old. Then a job change and quitting rodeo started putting the jelly in the jar. I'm not a big guy, but I did make it up to 195lbs and a 34" waist this winter.
Camp life has been good with all the fruit and veggies I can eat, and a gym 20 ft. from my office. But I get lazy when I get home. The biggest thing I need to watch is my diet. All access to pizza pops, chips, and McDonalds.
Down to 180lbs now, but still need to lose a few more. I'm more concerned about improving my cardio. I'll be damned if the elk are getting away from me this fall.

I'm 6' 2" and weigh about 220. I try to hike 7k 3 times a week. Up and down the Wapiti river hills. I watch what I eat and only stop hiking when the winter weather puts a stop to it. Usually around January. Can't run anymore if I want my knees to last me but sure would like too.

I am trying to hit it hard also. So far over the past few weeks I have dropped 12 pounds.
Monday - Friday = 10km bike ride
Monday & Tuesday = slo-pitch
Sunday - Saturday = 20 mins on the elliptical
Plus I am also eating healthier. No more fast food lunches.
