Question RV Battery

What's a good RV battery to buy? How much do they cost? How long do they last?

Just bought a tent trailer this spring and since then have camped at powered sights. Now we are heading to no mans land, to which there is no power.

Found out my trailer could use a battery and was thinking about putting one in. Have no clue. just want to run a cd player and maybe a heater at night.

Any advice or thoughts would be appreciated..Thanks all

Default i have 5 for my rv and am convinced

you get what you pay for-that being said i use the $100 canadian tire model for my minn kota (elec boat motor) and it works just fine. Rocky's batteries also come highly recommended with good follow up service. i use mine for a furnace, lights, etc so comparison may not be fair.

Default 6 volt

I dont know for sure but I have heard that if you can, get two 6 volts and wire them in series, then you will have a better system than a single 12 volt? And yes, Rockies is the place to go here in Edmonton.

If you're headed through Red Deer, send me a pm.

I have two 12 volt batteries that I interchange as needed. Also have a 1700watt generator to top them up, or run the trailer direct.

I just did the batteries in my RV, and went with the two Trojan 6V Golf Cart Batteries wired in series.Cost a mint ($450) for both but after checking around for info, am firmly convinced that they were the right choice. Longer life ( less frequent replacement, which adds up), a longer, stronger charge, better performance for dry camping (no community power. The downside is initial cost, and a longer time required to charge. I've heard from others who run the same setup of them getting 5+ years of great performance out of these, vs. replacing the initially cheaper 12V deep cycles in 2 yrs. So in 5 yrs, you pay the same price for 4 12V cheapies, or initially bite the bullet and get the good stuff.

I'm just going through this process right now for our trailer. I understand as already mentioned that two 6V in series is the way to go (room permitting). I also see there are two different 12V sizes to choose from - a Grp 24, and a Grp 27. The Grp 27 is larger (longer) and holds a slightly longer charge. I guess the next step will be to take some measurements on the front of our trailer and see what there is room for. I don't think there is going to be room for two batteries though.
