Supplimental WT Antlerless
What exactly does these tags allow you to shoot? Only Antlerless WT's (young or doe) and is it one or two? I've read somewhere that you only use one of the two tags, but that doesn't answer why they give you two.
Can someone clear this license up for me? Thanks.

You can take antlerless WT, see regs for definition. The second tag can only be used in certain WMU's, also listed in the regs. The rest of the zones you can only shoot one. Hope this helps.

Great advise Read them regs! You will discover as Dave says some wmu's are eligible for both others only for tag 1 and antlerless means less than 4inches of antler Translatess to any whitetail deer having less than 4 inches of antler on its melon is good for the table also you will note that some zones do not allow for any antlerless.

That's my problem, I have been flipping through the regs for the last week or so. I'm seeing things like page 71:
Quote:
|
Common Licence Mistakes
...
SUPPLEMENTAL ANTLERLESS WHITE-TAILED DEER LICENCE
This licence is issued with two tags and is only valid in WMUs 150, 151, 162, 163, 200-208, 214-246, 250-260, 310-314, 322-326, 330-357,360, 436-446, 500-514, 516-531, 534-544. It is a general licence and does not require a draw application.
|
Which doesn't mean a whole lot to me. I'll be hunting in 521, so does that mean I use one of the supplemental tags or, because it falls into 516-531, does that mean I can use both supplemental tags?
Page 58 has something similar:
Quote:
|
1 The Supplemental Antlerless White-tailed Deer Licence will be issued with 2 tags and is valid only in WMUs 500-514, 516-531 and 534-544.
|
Well, ok. Again with the 2 tags, but does that mean I can use both of them? I'm just trying to repaint the grey areas to plain ol' black and white.

You can shoot TWO deer in those zones. You will receive TWO tags when you purchase the license.

Ok, so outside those zones, you are only allowed to shoot one deer? Or are the Supplemental tags are just invalid outside those zones?
EDIT: Nevermind, only valid in those areas. It's early...

I'm not 100% sure on this but I just had a quick read through and it looks different than last year. Last year it specifically said which zones you were allowed to use the second tag in. The way it reads now makes it seem like it's either 2 tags or no tags this year. For the zones listed, you'll be allowed to harvest 2 antlerless, for the zones not listed, you aren't allowed any.
Is that how others are reading it too?

whoa hold on here!
The supplemental tags usually have the area's they're valid in printed right on them (if picked up at an issuer). Also, as I recall from last year you could only take ONE animal in some of the zones even though you had 2 tags. So don't get excited and whack 2 does and then find out that you only one valid tag for the zone.
As I said before, I'm sure the conditions are spelled out on the tag. READ CAREFULLY!

Completely agree Russ - I don't think anyone (at least I know I'm not) is going to get carried away and go shoot 2 does before fully understanding this. I'm positive that it is printed differently in the regs this year than it was last year. In the 300's section, for example, it had a list of which zones that the first tag was valid for and a list of zones that the second tag was valid for. Now it just states that the license will have 2 tags and is valid for zones x,y, and z.
It's also listed in the "Definitions and Changes" section as the OP posted so I think it is different from last year.

Ahhh, ok so there is something I'm not seeing. That's what I was looking for, russ. So the stipulations are on the license itself?

Ok, well the issue is still as clear as mud.
I just bought the license online and all it says is:
Quote:
Condition:
Refer to the current copy of the Alberta Guide to Hunting Regulations
for a listing of the valid WMUs.
|
Well, I knew that part. Did it really change since last year? I guess there's only one way to find out.

Go to the AO home page from the link at the top of this page.
Scroll to the bottom of the home page and find the hunting regulation summery.
Go to the big game seasons tab, click on the group of WMU's you are hunting in look in the print below the season matrix and voila instant answers.
I checked the 300's and yup no single tags by my interpertation, looks like if the zone gets a mention your good to go with both tags.

it has changed since last year From what I understand, both supplemental tags are valid in any of the WMU's listed.

If you look under important changes for this year, it's spelled out pretty clearly.
Both tags are valid for the WMUs listed.
"The Supplemental Antlerless White-tailed Deer Licence will be issued with two tags and is valid in the following WMUs: 150, 151, 162, 163, 200-208, 214-246, 250-260, 310-314, 322-326, 330-357, 360, 436-446, 500-514, 516-531, 534-544."

Ok, I dug through the 2008 Regs and compared them with the 2009 Regs. There is a big difference in wording:
2008 Regs for 500 Boreal Region:
Quote:
1 The Supplemental Antlerless White-tailed Deer Licence is valid in WMUs 500-511, 514, 520, 521, 523-525, 527, 528, 534-544. The 2nd tag will
only be valid in WMUs 500, 502-511, 521, 523, 541, 542 and 544.
|
2009 Regs for 500 Boreal Region:
Quote:
|
1 The Supplemental Antlerless White-tailed Deer Licence will be issued with 2 tags and is valid only in WMUs 500-514, 516-531 and 534-544.
|
Seems they've simplified the wording and relaxed the rules a bit. What do you think?

LOL...that's why it was listed as an important change for this year. Always best to read that section of the regs first.

I did read that section, I was just having a hard time believing that a regulatory government body had relaxed a restriction and made the reading easier. I was trying to read between the lines. Can you blame me?

LOL, ya it can be hard to believe. I'm not sure they really relaxed anything....just changed their harvest strategy in a few WMUs.

here's the thing, one guy was complaining to me the other day that he had 3 mule doe tags 'cause that's what the letter said. Well after he left, I checked and the zone he's hunting has 2 doe tags not 3.
That and YES I am guilty of not reading through the regs yet. I just know I'm good for 1 for sure

Where did you find out how many mule doe tags he was getting? That info isn't in the regs. I drew 108 this year and I know I'm getting multiple tags but until I buy the licence I don't find out how many.....

I can't recall but I found it somewhere. I thought I read it in one of the season footnotes?

There was 6 unsubscribed antlerless tags available, I was reserving one for a friend and it stated that each of the six came with three tags for 108, least that's what I saw sheep. My letter from being successful, just as yours probably said up to 3.

Ya, I actually spoke with the biologist and he said three as well but unless you make the call or as in your case look at the uindersubscribes, you don't know how many you are getting until the machine spits them out. Kinda like Las Vegas!

That's why I was asking where you read it because it's not in the regs and if there wasn't undersubscribed tags left in the zone you wouldn't know.
Thanks
