I have been given my Father's old 30-06 rifle for hunting Big Game. My father was not the same size as me and consequently I am experiencing "Scope Knock". I am 6'2" tall and my father was 5' 7".
I have tried to put a rubber slip over extension I got from Canadian Tire but I do not like the look or feel of the extension nor do I think it is the proper size for me.
I believe I have a few options and would like to ask the members here what they think my options are or offer any solutions to my problem.
My first options is to be sized to determine what the proper size stock should be for my size and height. Where would I have this done at?
My second option would be to buy a new stock( composite fibre or what?) and discard the old wooden stock. I would prefer to keep the original because of the sentimental value of it being in my family for generations to come.
Third option could be to take it to have retrofitted by cutting the stock and adding a new wooden extension. Again where would be a good place to have this done?
This is my first post so bear with me if I have not folllowed the proper guidelines. I thank you in advance for your help and look forward to your responses.
If you go into P@D in edmonton they have different recoil pads that are different lenths. They would be able to help you size it up. Just dont go in on a Sat morning and expect alot of help as they are usually understaffed and busy. If you can get in during the week especially during the day they would be able to help size you up.

I helped TRN_Diesel remount the scope after WS in Edmonton made a mess out of the install that is another story, his scope is as far forward as it can go. his scope is a Bushnell 3200 3-9 X 40.
Moving the scope forward addresses a symptom, not the problem. A small stock on a big man is a pain in the hoop. At 6'5" i know this first hand.
I would find a suitable replacement with a longer length of pull and put the original back in the closet. Who knows, your son may end up being built like his grandfather.Would also make for a good youth stock if you have a kid who wants to hunt with you.
Thanks for all your replies. I went to HS Arms in Edmonton and had a very good meeting with a German fellow who owns the place.
He measured me and stated the length of pull matched the stock and the problem was in the scope and how it was mounted. Turns out with the mount I was not able to move the scope forward because it was short in length. He will remove the old mount and install another one which will give me the 1/2" needed to have the scope moved back to the proper position. I will also have a new recoil pad installed.
Looks like this is a great forum for asking questions and getting some very useful and helpful information. Will wait till the gun is adjusted and then Alpineman and I will have to go the range and test it out and then it will be HUNTING SEASON!
