ultra light rifles (weatherby vs browning)
Guys
I'm buying a new rifle and have narrowed it down to a weatherby ultra light in 280 rem or a browning ti in 270 wsm.
Anybody out there have pros and cons on these rifles.

Hard to go wrong with either I'd say. Pick the one that fits you best although the .270WSM would be my pick....regardless of rifle brand.

The Wby ultralight would be the one and only Wby I'd own, though not a fan of more than two locking lugs, and I wouldn't own a Browning. I'd also go 280 rem over the 270 WSM any day of the week. If you must go one or the other go with the Wby.

I have killed game with .280s and 270WSMs - both are outstanding calibers. Definitely a better bullet weight selection in the 7mm. Must confess to being a Browning fan, but would recommend to going with the gun that fits and feels best. FYI Browning also makes a 'lighter' weight rifle in the X-Bolt Micro line, which includes sopme dandy calibers including the short mags.

Well hunterb youre going to have to buy the rifle that fits and feels best to you. Every gun feels different to every person. Both would be great choices of rifles. If it was me personally I would choose the Weatherby Ultra Lightweight. As far as caliber I would rather have the .270 WSM.
Best of luck in choosing your new rifle.

Hunterb,
With out a doubt find the one you are most comfortable with. Personally I favor the Weatherby ultra light cambered in the 270 WBY mag. My brother-in-law, sister and I all three shoot this rifle and since we have owned these rifles things die. We have shot moose down to coyotes with this gun and have not been let down. Very good long distance rifle! Two years ago I bought my 12-year old son an Antelope hunt at a show for his first big game hunt. With the hunt it included a custom rifle. I let my son choose his caliber and he chose the 270 WBY mag because he likes shooting mine so well. He has shot mine since he was 10-years old. Not a big kid either! I like the WBY as much as his custom. The 270WSM is very good and very comparable to the 270 WBY mag. My wife has it in the Tikka T3 in the 270WSM and I have been happy with what I have seen. Have not seen it flat drop the animals like the 270 WBY mag but performed very well. I will not look for another big game rifle for me. If buying ammo is a big deal for you the 270WSM is little better than the 270 WBY mag for price if you are buying premium ammo. There is cheaper ammon for both. I don’t have a ton of experience with the 280 and I have had bad experience with the 7mm.
May have been just me!
Best of luck hope you find the one that is right for you!

The Weatherby Ultralite is a great rifle, my choice would also be chambered in 270 Weatherby Mag. I think this cartridge is one of the best kept secrets out there, long range effectiveness with a recoil that most people can handle.

Weatherby vs Browning
I have both a Weatherby ultra light in 300 wby topped with a new vx3 4.5x14-50 LR B&C and a 7mm wsm Browning Mountian T-I topped with a new vx3 4.5x14-40 LR B&C love both. Both shoot under MOA but have to say love the feel and the handling for the T-I, it comes down to you and what shoulder better and which one puts a smile on your face every time you pick it up. I took the 7mm wsm hunting mulies this year take a nice 3x3 up the side of a mountain at a lasered 274 yards incline was 50*, head shot I figured it was a win win either hit or miss was not going to spend all day have to look for blood. Good luck with your pick you will not be disappointed with either just happier with one Cheers.......

If your going to go with what ''feels and fits'' you best...then you WILL be going with the WBY. Don't think there's a better feeling gun out there.
I'd go 280 for bullet versatility.
I think the WBY might be a tad less expensive as well?

Since you don't like the 7mm-08,and the 7mm-08 and 280rem are so close ballistics wise, you likely won't like the 280rem.

I've had a Browning A-Bolt 270 for close to twenty years and hand load for it. The gun drives tacks, simple as that! In 08 I got a wild hair and purchased a Weatherby in 270 WSM. After 6 boxes of shells, from different companies, I gave the gun back to the store and told them where they could store it. I couldnt get a 1 1/2 inch three shot group out of that gun for nothing, it handles poorly, and a box of shells ran average of $28.00 US. I'll keep my Browning A-Bolt synthetic. Its never not killed what I wanted it to. Less then 1 inch groups, handles great, easy to carry, shells are resonably priced if purchased off the shelf. I should own a couple of them.

I own a couple of A bolts and I will never part with them. No matter what everyone is going to say everyone have pro's and con's about diffrent brands but remember what ever gun you pick up and say wow when you shoulder it thats the one and I would go with 270wsm.

We also have an A-bolt chambered in .270 WSM that is deadly accurate and is a real pleasure to handle and shoot, no regrets with this rifle, I have never owned a weatherby but some of the higher end models sure look pretty..weatherby .300 mag is definitely on my wish list

cost
The weatherby is $2200.00 and the Browning ti is $1850.00. So not a big difference in cost at all.

weatherby vs browning
Guys
Weight is reason i'm going with the standard calibers in the weatherby if i were to look at the 270 weatherby i'm looking at adding 1 more pound to the rifle.
Brownings are 4 ounces lighter than the weatherby.
Browning ti 5 pds 8 ounces
Weatherby 5 pds 12 ounces

Thge 270wsm produces identical performance as the 270 weatherby without the high priced weatherby amunition.

Id go with the 270wsm as I own both a .280 and a .270wsm and the .280 never leaves the safe any more. Love the accuracy and ballistics of my .270wsm. Also when it comes to the pick of your rifle brand I would go with what everyone else says, "what ever fits you and shoulders best for you". Dont worry about the 4oz. as if this is gunna make or break you then by the time the gun is complete with scope, sling, bullets and scope covers you wont be happy anyways. JMO
