I had a telus phone, but now im running the iphone with rogers (as of last christmas 2009), havent had any trouble with it what so ever... sure i lose service up north or in walmart, but so do my friends whom are on telus.
Anyways, I know with rogers that their phones run on sim cards.(lil memory type card thing for identification of phone and number) and if you happen to break ur phone u can just take the sim card out and slip it into another phone, as long as the phones are similar it usually works (black berry to black berry or basic phone to basic phone). However i think that in ur case because u lost ur phone you would still have to pay for a new sim card. Idk how the plans compare, but rogers is definately worth taking a look at if ur sick of telus. Like i said havnt had any trouble in the 1 year and a bit since switching..

After years of being bent over by telus, rogers and fido I went to bell. Now I can't say their outstanding they still stick it to ya but so far they are the lesser of the evils you really have to watch these days hey they'll screw you any way they can ie. data charges and such you hear so many hoar stories about the poor guy that just wants a simple phone goes over his limit and gets a 500 bill Speaking from experience like really it sucks how all the major outfits get away with this garbage and when you complain they think your nuts like really doesn't everyone pay 2-3-4 hundred a month for a phone. Arrrrrg now i'm po'd might go postal at a phone.

No, I pay $180/month and that's for both my cell phone and my fiance's cell phone, Data and Voice. We just terminated a Bell contract that she had and was waiting for the end of it so she didn't have to pay a $100 cancellation charge. Out of Bell, Telus and Rogers, I'd rate them:
  1. Telus - For their combined great service and great coverage.
  2. Rogers - For their great service, but mediocre coverage.
  3. Bell - For their great service and crappy service.

This is personal opinion, but having worked for Telus, in the past, I can tell you the employees work their azz off, trying to deal with cranky customers who feel they can yell at them because they can't see them. I hung up on a number of people because they couldn't get a vocabulary beyond four letter words and decided to call me names. I don't care how much I'm being paid, it's not enough to deal with customers who treat you like dirt.

Me as well. I'm actually looking for my chance to cancel my Rogers contract and go back to Telus. Rogers is ok, but their coverage sucks.

To the OP: The cost is written in the Device Protection Plan, not hidden, it's right there in the open. At least you're not paying $750 to replace the phone:

Quote:
  1. Call TELUS immediately at 1-866-558-2273 to suspend service and prevent unauthorized usage.
  2. Contact Asurion directly within 30 days of the incident by calling toll-free 1-866-281-4537.
  3. Once your replacement request is approved, you will be asked to pay a replacement service fee of $40, $80, or $150 based on your device model involved in the incident.
  4. Once you pay the replacement service fee, a new replacement device with a brand 12-month warranty will be shipped to you, typically in 1-2 business days.
  5. When your replacement device arrives
    1. Follow the simple device activation steps included in the box
    2. Return your damaged or defective device (if applicable)*
Also, note that when you receive your new phone, don't go to a store to have it activated, just do it online and save yourself $25.

Quote:
Web activation | Call-in activation
$10 per activation | $35 per activation
Something else to keep in mind, Telus doesn't own retail locations. The stores you see in malls, with the Telus name above it, are not owned by Telus. They are stores that Telus has licensed to use their name. They can charge whatever they want and their prices might differ from the prices offered over the phone or on the web. It's always best to check, first.

I am on telus and have been for years and have always been treated very well. I have a share plan for my family and have only paid the activation fee once for each person on the plan and I have got new phones and changed phones around it is suppose to be a one time activation fee only. Check with different dealers, before I choose one I went to different ones and found one that activated my phones free the first time and provide loaner phones if needed (although I have a drawer of phones to use).

I threw my Rogers/Cantel cell phone across their showroom floor a few years ago and drove over to Telus.

Have not looked back since. I know things have changed, but I have had zero grief from Telus mobility.

Sorry to hear you are having troubles with them.
