Default Best Grizzly Outfitters

Hey guys, A good friend from Texas is thinking about going on a Griz hunt and was asking me who I figured would be the best outfitter to book with. I have a few friends with Griz allocations but am looking for some unbiased opinions.

Thanks in advance for your tips.

For an Interior Grizz, I would have to go with Aaron Fredlund of Fredlund Guide Service. I have been in his area as well as several other good bear spots, and he has some awesome grizz hunting.

Lots of good outfits out there though that kill some great bears.

Default Grizzly hunt

Maybe try Bart Lancaster, he's out of Smithers, BC. His clients kill some nice bears.

The Lancaster crew has killed some dandy grizzlies.

Did a hunt with Jake Jefferson of Black River Hunting Camps in Alaska last fall. Very happy with his experience, attitude and the amount of effort he puts into the hunt. The area (north of Talkeetna, west of Mount McKinnley) is breath-taking.

Jake's hunts are pretty basic in terms of creature comforts -- it's just you, the guide, and a tent out in the middle of absolutely nowhere. The degree to which you'll enjoy the experience is completely dependent on the amount of conditioning you've done in the months prior -- it's big, open country that's not nearly as gentle as it looks from the air.

Bottom line, though, is that I would definitely hunt with Jake again. We'll just need to hunt something other than grizzly, as we managed to tag a beautiful one on the afternoon of the first day! :-)
