Default Alberta Wilderness Association--are they anti hunting?

The wife brought home a nice glossy magazine entitled "Wild Lands Advocate" that is put out by the Alberta Wilderness Association. She thinks we should subscribe and maybe even buy a gift subscription for some friends.
When I looked it over and then went to their website I got the sneeking suspicion that they are a group of 'anti hunters'. One of their support groups are those wackos at Y2Y and I notice that Mountain Equipment Co-op are sponsors too.
Am I right with my suspicions?

Go to one of their meetings wearing your "I Love to Hunt" cap. I'm sure many members of AWA will quickly answer your question.

The AWA certainly is strongly connected to 'anti-hunting' organizations. While their website does not include any direct wording to being opposed to hunting, (except for predators, AWA has openly taken a position opposed to hunting of bears, cougars, and wolves), the group does not support hunting.

AWA has done a tremendous amount of work to help protect areas of Alberta from industrial exploitation. I would like to support many of their efforts, but don't because of the AWA's record of siding with plans to exclude hunting from provincial recreational areas, example, the creation of Spray Lakes Provincial Park.

Default Awa

ask them what they do with the money?

do they buy land for AB's wildlife?

Then you will know.

I was a member of that organization at one time years ago. They were a very good "conservation organization" at that time and were an alley of the AF&GA. I am not sure if they have changed their views or not. (By that I mean if the people at the top have changed their views)

There are better places to put your money. And it would be wise to let them know why they didn't get your money.

FCL is correct. There are far, far, far better places to put your money than with these guys. If you aren't a member of the AFGA they should be at the top of your list.
