Default small mouth bass/perch fishing help

Hey guys, we have rented a small cabin on Jim Smith lake near Cranbrook for a family vacation and I really need some fishing advice for that area. None of us have caught bass or perch in the southcountry lakes and I'm still trying to get my grandkids to catch thier first fish and get them hoked on the sport Any help/suggestions/ even hints would be greatly appreciated as I'm clueless. We have a week and a canoe and a few rods and some trout equipment at this point. Thanks for you time.

Jim

i goto a couple of private lakes in ontario every year to catch large and small mouths. i always use 2-3" jig tubes that are pumpkin with sliver flakes in color. you need to get weighted hooks to go with the tubes. Also, just before evening, try top water poppers or floating froggy lures. this works very well fishing from a boat.
If you are shore fishing, i would use a small hook and worm with split shots. i have found that most of the bass i have caught have always been around some sort of structure like lily pads, fallen timber or even tall grass.

If you can fall out of bed in the morning, you can catch bass in BC. I like to fly fish for them. Great fun. Wooley buggers, yellow zonkers, and any buggy looking nymph will catch them and the perch. If you like spin fishing, any surface lure is a lot of fun. I like the Heddon Torpedo with the propeller on the end. It works very well. Jigs work well as do any small plug or lure. It's not rocket science as you will soon find out. Let me know how many you caught.
