Default What's the problem with Canadian Tire?

Went to Canadian Tire today (Cold Lake) to buy a knife sharpener. They were in the locked case next to the ammunition display case. So I had the clerk retrieve a $4.99 Normark sharpener from the case and proceeded to go to the check-out. To my surprise she said 'I have to bring it to the check-out for you', it is policy. Give me a break, a $4.99 knife sharpener, is that really necessary? I am surprised they didn't ask to see my PAL as well. do they really need to keep these in a locked case. I can see the logic of knives or ammo, but knife sharpeners, gimme a break.

It's just in case you intend to rob the place with a hockey stick that you sharpened with a $4.99 Normark sharpener.

Last week I went in there to pick up a little pair of binoculars that was on sale for $5.99. Even the girl at the till laughed when the other employee had to walk me up to the till with a $6 item

Or is it a highly shoplifted item that they can't put there security tags on. Maybe it has nothing to do with being a hunting item. Just a thought.

this realy a funny thing because if you go over to the house wears department, the same knife sharpeners are not locked up either are the knives, I supose that crimes are only comitted wth hunting knives and hunting equipment LOL

I had to return to Canadian Tire this morning for furnace filters and decided to check the housewares aisle. Yes, they had knife sharpeners there, but not the Normark ones, although the ones in housewares were more expensive. So I guess it is only the cheaper ones that are worth stealing. Or is it that that small ones are more easily hidden and could be considered as concealed weapons. You are right, the store clerk was a bit embarrassed to be bringing the $4.99 sharpener to the till, all she could say was' I have to stick to the rules'.

would've been real funny to continue your shopping around the store looking at different items, all the while having a clerk at your side. haha

I think you've just given me a good idea. I'm going to go to a Canadian tire and get them to open every display case in the store so I can purchase the cheapest item in each case. Should take about a half hour or more...depending on how much I waffle and handle each item in the case.

This is a huge pet peeve of mine and why I don't bother buying tools at Canadian Tire anymore...trying to find someone so I can buy a 5 socket or something is stupid. Although I have pretty much quit going to Cdn Tire anyway.

I don't know about you guys, but I absolutely hate being pigeon holed with the criminals that frequent these places.

I was at Flying J yesterday, and they are now 100% prepay. I looked up form the till, Joan saw me, and she has sold me likely $20,000.00 worth of Diesel. We have met.

The card reader would not work, there were 3 guys fighting with them outside. I went in, asked her to reset so I could try again, and when I got to my car I hear over the loudspeaker "Can I get a 29 on pump 6 please?"

This little run down scrub of a man came out, looked at me, my plate, the next pump, me, my plate, and tried to pretend to be readins something off the pump next to me, but was quite obviously reading my plate.

I laughed to myself, and the little pr1ck stood there the entire time, until I went inside.

I walked in, noticing 7 guys at the till, Joan standing there by herself. I said loudly as I walked in the door, for all to hear, "Joan why is is when I COME IN HERE TO GET A PUMP RESET, YOU HAVE TO READ MY PLATE???"

With all the guys standing there waiting to pay, she was a deer in the headlights. The manager snuck out to the bathroom, and she said "you were the only one that asked for help" ??@!?!? What?

I waited for my turn, she looked at me, looked at my F&R shirt, and said 'please don't kill me, I am alone here."

Holy f***.

I said it is ridiculous that she was there alone, that 2 tills were closed, and people were waiting 15 minutes to pay for fuel, after fighting that stupid prepay terminal. I said that I knew it was not her fault at all, and that she could easily get a better job. Her POS manager never came back, Joan thanked me and out I went.

I won't go back there, I refuse to support a place like that. Next it is going to be staffed by Mexicans and Phillipino's, which likely is happening now, they have removed all the concession, and are now a Denny's.

From now on, if they think I am a criminal before I walk through the door, I wont shop there again.

What a stupid way to have to shop.

Wait...were you at the Flying J out in the Park?

If so you should have let me know you were in the 'hood and I could have come met you for a coffee or lunch or somethin' (not at Denny's!)

Ya, had to do a flying trip in to sign some papers at the Lawyer, so of course I was in a REAL good mood

Now of course if it happens, I will be in a good mood anyway.

I had the clan with me, spent most of the day at South Common, half hour at Hi Flight hobbies, then peeled for home before I killed someone, WOW the drivers there suck. Whitemud was insane, it was like they were handing out free cell phones at one end, and told everyone to text as much as possible while driving as fast as possible.

Next time Jizelle.

You think that's bad? Try going through BC, every single gas station is prepay only, by law. Happened just after I left the province.

Welcome to a day of driving here. I deal with it every day.

The Whitemud is nothing...you should have seen the Anthony Henday last Friday I think it was...got down to where the Southbound lane was completely stopped...when I finally got up to the commotion I saw there was a gravel truck severely jack-knifed and teetering on the edge of a steep ditch. The had one of those big-arse tow trucks out there but it looked like the guys didn't know how to deal with the situation.

A couple hours later I was headed back the other way and the tow truck was gone, and there was now a crane in its place...I couldn't see the gravel truck any more, but judging by the way everybody was standing around, I'm guessing it was down in the ditch.

Good times driving in the city

I'm glad I'm at least somewhat removed from that mess now

This was the only pic I took of the traffic...didn't snap any of the messed up truck as I wasn't quite on the ball enough with the camera as I was going by...
