Default First Class Power Engineers

Are there any first class power engineers on here? Was it worth all the work?
Would you quit your current job in order to get your firing time for your first class?
For others that might read this would quit a job in an attempt to grow your career?

I have my second and have worked closely with 2 other guys that got their first. Currently working with another guy that just got his first as well. I am planning on working on it once all my kids are in school full time. Even working on the second took me a while and it takes away from a lot of family time, etc. The one guy I worked with who I would regard as one of the smarter people I have ever worked with took close to 2 years to get his. A lot of work for sure. Depending on the plant you work in you might be getting first class firing time. You obviously have to have your second to work on your first, so factor in the time to get the first half and then the time for the second half of the exams and enough time might go by from the time you started that you will be good.

I have my Second but the problem that I am having is that the facility that I am at is only a second class, I would have to find another job where I could get my firing time to complete my first class.

You might have already started, but if I were you and were looking to move on to a different job I would write the first half of the first while you are looking. That would give you a good idea how much work is involved in getting the first and you might not want to continue, and if you did end up getting the first half you would have a major leg up on other second class guys which might help land the job where you can get first class time in. Plus look into your company's policies as they might pay for schooling/books/courses that you could use to further your education, which might help get a first class plant job. But don't tell them that!

Longshot270 I have looked in the comapany doing that but they only need Thirds to run the place and a Second for Chief Engineer, so they are not going to play for the book etc. but I like the idea of going as far as you can then deciding to drop it or continue. Might have a winter work project.
