Default New Grande Prairie Hunt/Fish Store

Heard on the radio yesterday that GP is getting a new hunting/fishing store. It's called Primetime Hunting and Fishing - located next to Northern Tackle (which is a wholesaler), opening towards the end of Nov. Did a drive by today and signs are up.

Anybody got an inside scoop? and/or What do ya think ?

Default Speculation Only

I haven't been in GP since the spring and I dont know anything about it but since you asked what we think. If I was to guess since you said it was right beside Northern Tackle then I would say it is the same gentleman who owns Northern Tackle who is opening the retail store to supplement the wholesale side of it. Just a guess though.

Poor location if it's beside Northern Tackle. They're still in the industrial park aren't they?

Yeah, not the best location for sure, it is still industrial park. Noticed it last week on the way out hunting after filling up at the cardlock.....gonna check it out though.

I think you will find out that Mr. Barton is involved with the owner of Northern Tackle in this endeavor. Wonder how long the people who bought his store, BARTON's, are going to be able to compete. Wonder if they will even be allowed to buy wholesale at Northern Tackle?? You may get a few bargains, when they first open, but imagine what will happen when they are the only ones left.

What would we do if we didn't have gun stores to go into to look at all the new stuff and dream a bit? In this age of Liberal gun bashers I say the more stores like it, the better!!!!!! I wish them all the luck in the world!!!!!!

I heard the same thing. I'm thinking Jack had to signed something saying he can't open a store up for a few years; I guess his time is up. The guys at Big Country buy a lot of stuff direct so I don't think they will have a problem.

Funny to see another store open up when three just closed down in the last year (Tackle Shack, Whitetail Ridge, and Hunter's Edge).

I don't think Whitetail Ridge is shut down, heard Donnie was just moving locations? I don't shop there, but that was what I'd heard anyway....anybody know for sure?

This will be interesting in the next few months...

Grande Prairie as it is now will not support another gun store...
tackle will not see you survive, especially loacted in the industrial park.

If this store is to succeed, they will need to have at least comparable pricing and selection to WSS and Barton's...

As for Jack....

I'll stop here..

Interesting to hear. Barton's was Jacks 3rd try at a store in GP, with timing (economy) and location (busiest intersection in town) it seemed to take off.
Maybe the wholesaler lost some business also and partnered up to double dip into some retail.
Should be interesting, 1 more option for us guys, hope it floats.

if you run a whole sale in back can only mean money if you run retail up front your your own customer. you sell whpolesale for a small mark up but retail is a huge mark up, finally selling out the front door. they cant lose they will never owe money to some one else. they dont even have to do alot of bussiness just enought to pay a couple of staff. Sounds like win win

whitetail ridge is not closed, they just moved i was there last week and bought a pound of powder, as far as wholesale being only a small markup... haha. my brother in-law was in the business and he says there is about 105% markup and if wholesale sports is actually selling WHOLESALE then im confused... since bartons is about $5 cheaper for an RCBS beam scale

Back in August I think. Not sure but think Ron needed some time off for health reasons....

Went by Primetime today, they were supposed to open but don't have their lisencing in place till the 15th....but I just walked in the door and talked to A.J., the manager anyway. Nice guy, I'm looking forward to them opening.

FYI - store is open, grand oprening suposed to be Friday I heard. They seem to have a bit of everything although it's a fairly small store so they can't display a whole bunch, shelves are full.
They also have WSM ammo if you guys down there are having trouble finding any
