Default North Buck Report

Headed out first thing thismorning, fishing was slow all day. We fished in 8-12 feet of water and the ice was 12 inches thick about 150 yards off shore but I did find one spot that was only 8 inches. Caught a bunch of small perch and only managed 2 keepers at 10". Tested out the new tent...........as we watched it blow a 1/4 mile across the lake end over end from the howling wind. You go chase it, no you go chase it.

Just a hint, we get some crazy winds down south, I found it best to put at least one anchor in and attach it to one of the outside ropes on the tent before you pop it open.

Wayne, Ive learned my lesson now lol. Last year we got away with just having slushy snow around the base of the tent to hold it down. You should have seen the two hillbillies chasing a tent across the lake on a quad looking like they should be in the steer wrestling event.

BHB, small was well.....small. The smallest one was the size of my thumb. Everything else was between 5-7 inches. There were 2 other groups, one left around noon, the other showed up for the last hour.

Ive fished that lake every weekend when i was married. The ex`s family is all over that area.

There are some stellar spots for nice perch, and a few for whitefish.

Whereabouts were you? not by the prov park i hope. ITS DEAD !

LOL

Default North Buck spots

Can you telll me what the water level is at? I hope the lake has come up as it opens a few bays that have been pretty good in the past. You might try in the north west corner where the creek comes in and again in the bay by the yellow house on the north shore. These spots are better in March so you may have to simply trap line until you locate fish.

North Buck has really nice perch and some decent pike, but the trick is finding them and then convincing them to bite. I think I have it generally figured out now where they are but the biting part is still hit and miss. It is frustrating when you can bump your bait off the lips of a one pound perch and they just sit there. If you hit the right day and the right spot you sure wouldn't be saying "DEAD".

The water levels are better than they were the last 3 years. I fished the bay with the yellow house this summer, a small jack on almost every cast.

Buck has a tonne of fish, including big perch. My flasher showed fish all day, went through my whole selection of perch hooks and like everyone else said, they are just picky eaters and tough to hook. Safety D works for peta anyways.

I agree buck has alot of nice size perch. I have caught several 12-13" perch through the ice.
In regards to your flasher how do they work?

I bought a Humminbird Ice55 last week and yesterday was the first time ive ever used one. They are amazing, I can watch the line on the screen which is my hook, raise it up a bit, watch the other lines on the screen get closer to my hook and then wham, nibble nibble. Also, the water on buck is a little murky so it really helped getting an exact depth. Money well spent.

So i'm guessing its alot better than a fish finder...I purchased a U/W camera and can't wait to try it out may also consider purchasing a flasher too if they work as good as you say..I was wondering how much do the flashers run for?

I also have an underwater camera but found that the flasher works better, giving the depth reading and showing what the bottom looks like(weeds, soft muddy, or hard) without having to uncoil the camera cord and drag it around the lake. On the warmer days when im not using a tent I found the display also hard to see on the tv, while the flasher display shows clearly all day. The flasher cost $500. I still have to figure out all the ins and outs and options it has this season.

Were you able to drive on yet? How thick was the ice and where did you access the lake from?
