Trailer Tow Package Installation

Hey Guys, just bought my wife a 2006 Dodge Durango and would like to get a trailer tow package installed. I'm in Calgary, any suggestions where I can get the work done and how much this should cost?

I'll tag along. I'm looking to do the same for my Rav4 V6 in the same city. What class hitch are you looking at? I'm assuming brakes as well.

I think class III with brakes would be OK for anything up to a small travel trailer?

Thanks guys, but what do you think I'd be looking at $-wise to buy and have a class III installed? With brakes and without (jpanagakos is looking for brakes, I'm not, just lights, etc.) Ball-park?

Probaly 2-300 for the hitch, brake control probably 1-200 and 2hours to put in.150 bucks... ballpark and considering it is a toyota might be a little more. Bolting on a hitch and with the plug and play brake controls these days, its pretty easy to do yourself if you have a few tools and a little patience. Dpends what you are pulling to, under 3000 pounds you dont need brakes, might be 3500. I forget exactly.

I read your hole post now. Just lights, you just need a wire harness that are usually plug and play, last one I bought was about 80 bucks I think for a 98 cherokee.

My advise is go bigger. I only needed class 3 on our first trailer but ended up (as most do) going to a bigger trailer and unit to pull it. The guy recommended going bigger for the future. I didn't have to worry about upgrading my hitch.

Thanks for the advice guys. MY RAV has a 3500 lb towing capacity, 270 horses, and isn't that big, so I don't see towing a true travel trailer. I was thinking more just to be able to tow a rented U-Haul trailer, a utility trailer with a snowmobile on it, etc..... but perhaps I should still get the brake package anyway.

I would agree and get the max hitch your vehicle is good for. If you get a wire harness for lights, check hoppys I think is the outfit that makes them, it would just plug into a harness in the vehicle, hidden in some obscure place. A brake control can always be added easily as they just plug in under the dash, (usually).

I have had good visits with The Hitch Shop just off of BlackFoot not far from Shaw GMC.

On 42nd @ MacLeod Trail there is the Auto Truck Depot and I have had very good experiences with them too ...
