There was a segment on the 10:00 news (KRTV- Great Falls) the other night that discussed antelope migration. The F&G dept. put a tracking collar on an antelope near Glasgow, MT last winter. They tracked it back to Canada last spring (just across the border into Saskatchewan). This winter that same antelope travelled over 300 miles south and ended up close to Billings where it lost the collar they had put on it.... How much further south it went is hard to say.
In January a herd that the F&G estimated at 2,500 animals ended up between Chinook and Havre... Many of those probably came down from Alberta and Saskatchewan, which is only about 30 miles north of here. I went to Havre on Saturday and there are antelope strung out along the hillsides feeding everywhere. Whether they'll all head back north is hard to say, but if you all are wondering where your antelope went, we have them down here.
